If it can be destroyed by the truth, it deserves to be destroyed by the truth” – Carl Sagan

  1. Truth … such an elusive concept these days … almost as if it no longer has value, or it is whatever one decides it is at any given moment, subject to change in the next. Sigh … forgive me … obviously I am a political writer and sometimes it refuses to stay at home when I visit other blogs. Both are excellent quotes, but my choice is Sagan’s. Thanks!

    1. I always think of the xfiles. They searched for the truth over all those years and still haven’t found it – I think I would have given up by now. I get so disillusioned with the U.K.- too many people seem to not want the truth but want to hear today’s sanitised message. Politicians don’t answer questions truthfully just recite sound bites.

      1. Ahhh … an X-Files afficionado! My friend, Herb, got me hooked on that a few years ago … “Trust No One”. 😉 It is the same here in the U.S. — far too many are willing to believe what they are told to believe and perfectly content to ignore mounting evidence of wrong-doing in the government. People don’t like to leave their comfort zones … it’s easier to keep the blinders on and not have to see the truth.

      2. A few years back I knew a chap who worked at a relatively in a major government department. He said The x-files was a bit too close to the bone in tone. He described it as everyday someone pulls off one layer of secrecy and the job of the government was to make sure it was replaced by two new levels.

  2. What are nominations? I hear about them on WordPress and want to get involved, but I’m not certain exactly what it is. Thanks.

“If it can be destroyed by the truth it deserves to be destroyed by the truth.” I hadn’t heard that one before – powerful.

    1. Sometimes on WordPress you get campaigns or competitions or tasks or questions. The person who originated them sets rules on the post. These are usually open to everyone (everyone is nominated) or they have selected a small number of bloggers it applies to (the nominations). Your not forced to take up your nomination. Sorry lack of caffeine makes this explanation a bit naff.

      1. Thank you for taking the time to respond. Sounds like a fun way to keep bloggers engaged. (We do distract easily after all. Haha.)

I will have to keep an eye out for the nominations now. Thanks again for explaining it – especially before being caffeinated. 🙂
