Dad can we go to see the Birds at the cliffs”

So it was a trip to the RSPB centre at Bempton. A truly epic landscape with wonderful seabirds. Well that was the plan….

First route attempt interrupted by a work call resulting in a rapid u turn and a quick visit to the unit. An hour later we set off for the birds again. Then a traffic jam. Changed route and then we get stuck behind an accident. One route option left and this time it’s closed for the day due to road works.

Some days you just have to say ‘it’s not happening’. We turned the car round and headed home. So we had a think about bird names to describe our failure. These are mostly our sons efforts.

  • Donnocks
  • Puffbirds
  • Gannets
  • Shag
  • Red footed Bobby
  • Coots
  • Nutcracker
  • Woodcocks
  • Dickcissel
  • Great Tit

Anyway here is a bird from our last visit.

  1. Lovely pictures. Looks like the cliffs use in English TV and Movies like Agatha Christies’s Poirot. By the way, the close cap sometimes spells Fortnight or Fourthnight. confusing when I want to compliment my British friends with love of their home.:))

  2. Dickcissel?? Really?? ( He’s not just making that up? 😉 )

    Awesome!

That was not the only (or biggest) disappointment for the day…

My ‘Team’ lost the ‘unloseable’ election !! 😦

We don’t always (often?) get what we want. – Valuable life lesson!!

Hoping you have better luck next time! 🍀

      1. Or…. normal times, but now the scared, unhappy, angry, people get to let everyone know how they are really feeling via social media and the regular news which now uses S.M. as it’s main source of information/stories!!

      2. There is certainly something strange when people are so willing to believe untruths but also refuse to believe facts.

Mind you, i’ve heard some really ‘dodgy’ facts lately!!! 😉

  3. If you are ever in London, you must pay a visit to me, Cat Daddy and Louis Catorze and also try and spot the Angry Birds (the attractive but very noisy green parakeets). 🦜

  4. lol – birds with naughty names! Have you seen all of these? I am afraid that if I try to google them, the security features on my laptop are going to block them!

Sorry you did not make it. Just reading a comment above – there are lot of green parakeets around London.

  5. You know…yeah, this stuff happens. We were supposed to go to the family cabin this weekend, but that got cancelled when it was discovered that the water heater was leaking. Were we all disappointed? Heck yes! But then came this morning: after hours of torrential rain, I came downstairs at 5am to discover the connector between our sump pump and the pipe out of the house had BROKEN. Water was splattering all over the furnace room. Thankfully Bo got the connector back on and I could get the sump pump folks out to look it over and replace the connector with a new one. Imagine what would have happened had we been upstate for a few days!
So sometimes those botched plans are more than okay. xxxxxxxx

      1. Eh, things are so-so. I’ll be writing about that this week. We’re not sure when we can get to the cabin because of its own water issues, but we’re hoping for SOMEthing in June. Hope you’re okay too!
