It’s Swiss Sunday. Which means it’s Sunday and it’s time to indulge in a bit of Switzerland.

When my partner first took me to Switzerland I’m not sure what I was expecting. Mountains definitely. A beautiful country definitely. Brilliant transport without a doubt. Chocolate. Much Swiss cheese – probably. Yodelling – hopefully. Hardly any water – surely as it’s landlocked.

Now I can confirm it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places on the planet. It has mountains – lots of them. The transport is beyond precise. It is Chocolate Heaven. Swiss Cheese is very nice. Yodelling does happen but Swiss Culture is so varied and puts our culture to shame. It’s still treasured.

But I was hideously wrong on the water assumption.

If water is your thing then Switzerland is perfect. Waterfalls, Lakes, Rivers, Rapids, Streams. All stunning. All with a unique Alpine Colour and Sound.

Lakes and mountains are the perfect combination.

One warning. The alpine water can be on the chilly side. Brace yourself.

  1. Before when you talked about Switzerland I thought you were there again. Are these posts memories of your trip there? I have very fond memories of visiting there with my husband (also now deceased) in 1986. We stayed there the longest of anywhere on our 9 week driving tour of Europe. We rented the bottom level of a house on a lake and my husband loved watching the cattle on the mountain on the other side of the lake with a telescope planted by the living room window. They were the cattle of the people we rented the 1/2 house from–their way of keeping track of them. The Weiner Schnitzel did a lot to win over my husband’s heart re/ Switzerland as well. Wonderful memories.

  2. All that snow’s gotta go somewhere in the Summer!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

You really are racking up big brownie points for Swiss Tourism – this should not go unrewarded!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Maybe when you get there on your Creaky World Tour you can give them a virtual reminder and see if you can cadge a free trip for two – return.

Or maybe one-way might be preferable given the current state of play in the (not-so) UK?

(Love the brand name of the Lille cheese btw! ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

  3. This makes me miss Switzerland. I hope I get back there. When our children were little (barely more than babies) my husband had a client there. For 6 years he would commute splitting his time between countries. The kids and I got to visit for extended stays where we lived in Luzern or nearby Merlischachen. Those are the days that I look back on with the bittersweet realization of how fast the time goes when you are raising humans. It’s been said before – the days pass slowly while the years blur by. Your photos are gorgeous.
