Currently not allowed to run due to knackered body (but starting to ignore medical advice just a little) so was in desperate need of a new fitness hobby to stop me going stir crazy. Came up with the idea of seeing how far I would get around the world powered only by my stationary exercise bike and walking with Pokemon Go….plus just an occasional run.

The creaky world tour left us in Lille (France). We started out in North Yorkshire.

So on this leg of the expedition we have managed

Bike – 475km

Pokemon Go – 35km

Run (don’t tell the Dr) – 15km

So where do these numbers take us?

To the beautiful city of Strasbourg. Located on the eastern border of France close to Germany. It is the formal seat of the European Parliament. The city is dominated by the imposing gothic Cathedral.

Back in 2015 we visited Strasbourg. Unfortunately some wazzock forgot to bring his camera and his mobile was as flat as a pancake. So no photos and lots of housepoints lost. On that trip I became addicted to Flammekuche. A very thin pastry tart topped with creme fraiche, onions and other toppings. Bacon is popular.

The BBC kids comedy series Horrible Histories did a bizarre sketch about Strasbourg. It’s based on the real incident of sporadic mass dancing, called the Dance Plague which took place here in 1518.

So its goodbye to France and where next?

  1. Have you seen the film Eurotrip? I know you’re with your kids so this road trip of yours will be nothing like that film lol but I thought of it when I saw the map and had to ask.
    Watch it if you haven’t.
Enjoying your posts btw, although I am silent “liker”. 😉

    Enjoy and be well!

  2. Hello Gary. there is a song called Wildwood Weed by Jim Stafford. One of the lines in the song is “Take a trip and never leave the farm!” It really is a fun song, you might enjoy it. Hugs

  3. I vote for Italy. I’ve always wanted to go there.

Dont be like me and push your body before it’s ready. It make recovery oh so much longer and frustrating. It *does* give one the opportunity to come up with great new nicknames for oneself though.

  4. Great job with the exercise! Just don’t hurt yourself. I am that mom too – I can’t tell you how many times someone has to send photos to me of my kids at some event because I forgot my phone or camera. Mom fail!

      1. The “failure” feeling wasn’t as high as I thought it would be. Thankfully no one I know ran it and talked about how wonderful their run was. I took the whole weekend off of running and then ran 5 yesterday – everything felt great except for my foot. Stuck it to three today. I became Dr. Google. It appears I have Posterior Tibial Tendon dysfunction (not going anywhere near the “sprained” word). I guess I should just rest it.
