We survived the storm…… The wind and rain finally eased late last night. The electricity was fully restored late afternoon. But has gone off a few times since. One outside light has been snapped off. Our old wind gauge was destroyed. A few items have gone missing. I guess currently being blown around the Jet Stream. We were very lucky in the end. A number of villages are still under water. Houses are still without power. That’s so tough. Many of the places flooded have only just recovered from the last flooding a few months ago.
Today was still windy, damp and cold. Although we did get a couple of hours of blue skies. The run was restricted to roads and lanes. The fields and tracks are either submerged or mud baths. Even sticking to the roads didn’t save the socks and shoes from getting drenched. Now the skies have darkened. The winds picking up again and it’s periodically chucking it down.
After a quick shower and change it was back to a couple of hours more work. Foolishly I left the radio on. Some folk really get up my nose these days. First was the person who was annoyed that people kept going on about a storm. “Well it was just a bit windy. I was fine. Wish people would stop calling it a storm.” Tell that to the people of Hebden Bridge who where 3 foot underwater.
Then we had the commentator talking about a certain world leader. ‘Look at his baffling and often obnoxious behaviour. Clearly he is very clever. You don’t get a bank account like his without being intelligent. Yet he is without any empathy, does not have a sense of humour and has no social awareness. To me the reason is clear, he has Aspergers. It’s the only explanation.’
F##@##g unbelievable.
I’ve noticed a real worrying trend recently. A growing number of self proclaimed experts who are making spurious associations with Aspergers. Every rouge action, every piece of evil behaviour, every unpleasant and mean individual is blamed on Aspergers.
F##@##g unbelievable.
This discriminatory rubbish is too often based on no evidence. It takes its basis from the narrow minded unfounded views of biased media groups, lazy stereotyping in movies and skewed urban myths. The worry is how many actually buy into this dross. Too many. Let’s not forget that only a couple of months ago Greta Thunberg was attacked by the right wing press for looking, acting and sounding demonic. It just shows how far we have to travel as a society. How hard society makes life for people on the spectrum.
That’s why we have to keep fighting. Why we have to keep telling our real life stories. Some storms you are best just battening down the hatches. But some man made storms need to be met head on and challenged. We owe it to so many.
Glad to know you are OK.
Our neighbour had a bit of storm damage to her fence which Hubby has fixed today. It’s been windy, and I’ve had to fight to keep upright on our walks with the dog but we have power and the sea defences are doing their job so apart from deep puddles, no floods. It’s been bright and sunny this morning, but the afternoon turned bitterly cold as it is now. At least the wind has temporarily dropped.

That “leader” does not have Aspergers he has personality disorder or is narcissistic. (If you’re talking about our president)

Glad you did not get flooded, but how awful for those affected when only getting over previous.
If people start using aspergers for people that are actually idiots, narcissistic, violent etc.. then we will be going backwards like the 80’s and 90’s when they would always use schizophrenia to blame for those that shot people in cold blood, psycopaths. Which means they never learnt the lesson in the end as they made out to be. I will never forget the damage newspapers did there.

Congratulations on keeping picking up those soggy runners and squishing them down, step by step. That takes perseverance. Putting up with bigoted labelers also takes perseverance. As long as they believe their little lives are perfect, it is okay to malign others.

I think I would lose my marbles if I heard someone a. call someone autistic based on any behavior b. call someone autistic based on their negative behavior. Oh my goodness, that is just awful. I agree, we need to spread the good word to prevent things being said like what you heard. And I am glad you are okay after that storm!

It’s going okay. I’m not training for anything, or have any plans for anything in the future, so I’m just plugging away at five mile runs. Would like to get a long one in soon. We haven’t had that bad of weather, just a lot of rain to keep me indoors. Hope to get out soon. How about for you?

So few trails are passable. Going out but just going through the motions. I meant to say the last post you did on running I think you had those long running socks on. Do you always use them. I use them if I know I’m going to push myself.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I usually only wear them when I am doing a really long run. I don’t wear the socks, though just the sleeves. I wore the socks during a rainy half marathon and all the compression and wetness – well, they were uncomfortable and I lost a toenail. So, I stick to the sleeves. Although the last two fulls I did I had the worst Achilles pain – It wasn’t until the end of the second that I think it was the pressure of the sleeves. They do work as far as shin pain, though – the first marathon I did (and did for years) was soooooo hilly. I didn’t have any shin pain though the next day because of the sleeves. I don’t know if they make me go any faster, but they do cut down on day after pain for me.

A neurological difference is NOT the same as a personality disorder. 🤬 I’m afraid I would have hit the radio. I have a very long fuse, except when it comes to that 🐃💩!
I’ll keep correcting the mis-informed and the straight up idjits! That’s a fight that I dont mind having! Just wish we didn’t have to…
I slept the whole time Ben was school today. I guess I was more worn out than I realized.

A weather front with winds like you had would have looked like a blizzard here. Instead of sinking in mud to your knees if venture out we would be dealing with 15 foot snow drifts in the yard and up against the house.
The storm that would immediately follow would be one of words as to whether the army should be called in to clear the snow. Yes that’s a pure (white) reason to have an army.

It’s so bizarre that we are on the same latitude as Canada yet due to the Gulf Stream we get such differences in weather patterns.

Glad you survived. We still have a yellow alert for wind here,, but the storm seems to have blown itself out.
As for the self-proclaimed experts, they’re annoying. Clearly they have no idea what they are talking about and are simply spouting pop-culture stereotypes. If the radio is going to insist on giving this sort ignorance a platform, then presenters need to be much more willing to challenge these types of blithe assertion.

They never do. However they are quick to challenge callers questioning the experts.
