Last night as the sun started to set. Still no planes, the roads are left empty for the cyclists. Start of a Brave New World. Not sure why I’ve just wrote the words Brave New World. Probably because I’ve listening to Iron Maiden and their album called Brave New World. On that basis could have easily wrote down the words Stranger in a Strange Land.
I’m not entirely convinced it’s a Brave New World yet and I certainly feel a stranger in these strange times.
I was listening to a clearly incompetent member of the Government explaining that the reason she repeatedly voted against a pay increase for nurses (yet accepted a large pay rise for herself) was that it was a way to stop the Opposition playing party politics. And we are supposed to believe this Government when it says it loves the NHS. REALLY…….
We are also supposed to have faith in the Government. REALLY. The above member of the Government is supposed to be the Minister in charge of Care yet she should could only snigger when she didn’t have clue about how many people had died in Care Homes from this dreadful virus. Apparently it’s very difficult to find our, so she hasn’t bothered. Clearly it’s as difficult as voting for pay increases for our brave nurses.
Sadly it’s not just the Care Minister. Her boss the Health Secretary has suddenly decided that things are that bad in our Care Homes that it might be an idea to start testing staff and residents. So Care Homes will start to be contacted this week. It’s taken hundreds of deaths over the last few weeks to work that one out. But don’t worry… He delivered yet another speech with more promises. You never know one day he might get round to fulfilling a promise.
It would be a Brave New World if we had a competent Government who actually really cared.
I don’t know why the idiots can’t see what ordinary people can see so clearly. The whole damned world is in a mess though. It seems no one can get their acts together. So, Brave New World? Not a cat in hell’s chance.

I don’t put my faith in governments. You know by now where I put my faith and I’m sticking with Him. It can be a brave new world. ☺ Those words really spoke to me actually. Yep, God can whisper even through Iron Maiden… lol.

We have a similar situation here. Our health minister has been berating Doctors who hold him to account meanwhile the provincial government have tried to cut doctor’s wages, laid off nurses right before the pandemic struck (they have since hired them back, temporarily) and, in a nutshell, have declared a war of sorts on the medical professional. Now, the wage decrease has been put on hold until after the pandemic crisis has been resolved. Gee, do you think doctors and nurses want to stay here after all this government has done to undermine them? Oh, on top of all that the health minister has been pushing an online medical system whereby patients can chat with a so-called medical professional and/or their family doctor about their health issues. This is supposed to help alleviate the high costs of practicing medicine. But, get this, his wife and sister-in-law own the very company he’s advocating for. The premier insists there is no conflict of interest. Yeah, okay. It makes my blood boil.
I do hope there will be a new world, a better world, a world where people are cared a bout and good governance returns (if it ever existed in the first place). So much for democracy eh?

We live in a village so it’s easy here. When you see people bump into each other they just about 5 yards apart and shout the usual conversations about the weather. No masks, nothing like that.

Shouting makes the corna virus travel farther, if you happen to have it. What is it that makes people so blind to the realities of a pandemic?

People have been doing pretty good with it, but yes the streets are much quieter and not much is open except grocery stores and Walmart – because they sell food items. It’s a lot easier to get around town now, so there’s a silver lining.

Not the ones that offer a drive through. No cafes open for people to come in and sit, no restaurants either. The ones staying open are for call in orders for delivery. Is it the same there?

Yes the Tim Horton’s here always had long lines of traffic going through the drive through, not so much these days as people hunker down and wait for the storm to pass. Luckily I have never been much of a coffee fanatic so it’s not an issue for me, but I do feel bad for the people who really like their java juice.

I watched a video of a restaurant trying to find ways of serving tables while still observing social distancing. Basically they chucked food and drink at the tables from 2m. Very sad but equally funny. Strange times.

My youngest daughter, proud feminist and card carrying member of the Labour Party (as are all my children, I’m proud to say) messaged me last week when MPs voted themselves a pay increase. I won’t repeat the language used either by her in her note or by me when I read it. I am an optimist, a peddler of positivity but with each day that passes I find more and more evidence that we live in a world not sickened by a virus but by it’s own insistence on following the twin stars of selfishness and greed. That.

Deaths in care homes and nursing homes a huge scandal here in Ireland too. One home for older people with psychiatric illnesses recovered nine deaths over the weekend. Out of a total of 27 residents. And somehow nobody thought to mention them till last night. Seems if you’re old and mentally ill, you are invisible.

I don’t wish ill on anyone, but maybe BoJo will have seen a light and is now prepared to do something tangible for our frontliners, not spout forth empty promises.

Corporate greed, corruption…how do these people live with themselves?? Propaganda is rampant!! There’s a big banner outside the skilled nursing facility (probably similar to a Care Home) that reads “HEROS WORK HERE” but she had to sign a NDA against reporting the fact that they aren’t being given proper PPE. It’s disgraceful!
I hope the Sheeple are waking up. If they continue to blindly follow “the party line”, I’m afraid there will be violence before the dust clears.

At least your leaders didn’t decide to blame the WHO and defund it IN THE MIDDLE OF A PANDEMIC! Now the orange loon says everything will start to “return to normal” starting May 1, even though all professionals disagree.
Did you see that several US cities protested the social distancing orders? I’m surprised it took this long but they were areas that were only recently ordered to comply. As one health professional put it, “it’s unfortunate that their actions probably just extended the duration of what they’re protesting”.
It will be interesting to see what the new world looks like… what changes and how.

The protesters are the ones who believe the virus is either a political conspiracy or it’s really not that bad as the news are reporting.

He still pretends to believe that. I’m sure the push to reopen businesses on May 1 is based on his belief that it would magically disappear in April.
I’d say he’s a complete idiot but he’s a master manipulator.
I dread the ramifications but I really hope the WHO, other global agencies, and countries turn their backs on the US… just as he’s done to them.

It is the same everywhere. Every time the ruling party proposes something the opposition rejects, or when people demand something the ruling party refuses which the opposition opposes and when they come into power they change their stance. But when to comes to a salary hike for the MPs, there are no voices raised!

The aged are disposable, they have lived their lives, cost a fortune to keep in aged care homes. That is how the GOvernments see them. I worked as a carer and RN in aged care off an on and I loved it, funding was cut and the private ones would only put out good things when accreditation was due. We would run out of towels and sheets for heavens sake!!! One RN to 130 residents on night duty and two carers?? Paid less than aids and RNs in public hospitals. why? Criminal is the way things are done! I hope families sue the government for neglect and lack of duty of care!
