I stumbled across a few old photos. From a time before parenting. Even before my first ever digital camera… A time when my body was still young and I could run up mountains. A time when the wind would still blow my thick long black hair across my face.
A trip to the West Side of Northern England. To the Lake District and to one of Englands most famous mountains. The Old Man of Coniston. It’s not a huge mountain standing at just over 2600ft. But it’s steeped in history. It’s positioned next to the beautiful Coniston Water. The walk to the top takes you through old copper mine workings. Alongside a couple of stunning little tarns. Then finally onto a summit with sweeping views.
Hopefully one day I will return to the summit. A summit climb with considerably less hair. Which will take much longer this time and feature many sandwich stops..
Stunning, thanks for sharing. Big hug. 🙂

That is so gorgeous, but those rock thingies in the first picture remind me of Pet Sematary by Stephen King. You’re not burying anything up there, are ya? I would keep an eye on it coming back, hehe 😉

Yes I can see that now. Nit going to get to close to Cairns now.

Wonderful to see. And you know it’s not height, that counts on a hill.

That’s so true. My favourite Lake District hills are often the small ones surrounded by the giants.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yep… it is also about terrain, distance, steepness, the lot, views, you name it. Then there’s the reasons that make a hill a fav. Anything else is just ‘hill’ post notching.

So true. Was a little hill near my childhood home which is special to many. Even some of the great British climbers. For me it was because my mum scrawled her initials in the rock when she was a kid. I would go up and have a look to find it. Never did but still there hopefully

AWww.. Love it. Sure to be there still. I think hills of any size can be beloved for many reasons. When we go with our friends to Glencoe, she has a hereditary blood pressure prob and she can’t actually do tons. So whatever I have kind of got down to do—and that can just be a walk on the flat although we all know there’s no such thing there– always comes with the proviso we do a wee bit and we stop and we go back. The last time we were with them I suggested we try the walk up to the turning for Meall Mor cos the views on the way and when you get to that point are stunning. It took forever but she did it and she was so pleased. And that spot there is actually a fav of ours because of these views.

Yeah. Suitably work out in its way and the views are stunning there too. In fact, unless the mist is down the views are stunning everywhere you look. Fingers are crossed for August.

I know. We had already moved the may booking to August but i didn’t think we’d be able to bag much else so I am thrilled that we have. AND even better they never hiked their prices. Been hearing lots of complaints re other places, doubling their prices. Just need to get there,

Plus they are filling up quick. It was a stellar idea.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Well, they will have had bookings from before, like our booking that they offered to either refund or move a few months back so there is that backlog. Then there’s the fact sometimes you have to book like six months ahead as it is cos it is a small hotel and very popular. But I also imagine that people hoping to go anyway at that time of year but who had not been able to book cos they were not accepting for a while there, will have piled in pronto So I have been watching their facebook page closely. Even got our fav room so we are good.

Which is your room then?

Hell it is either 4 5 6 or 7… Don’t laugh I am dyslexic with numbers. They just don’t register with me I think. I mean AS I go to say one, like one of my daughter’s b/day date, another number crosses it and then I don’t know what number it should be and then people get all hurt about it. It is the queerest thing and a best kept secret. What I do know is that that four rooms have baths and after some of the messes we have been in up there, like the time we did Buchaille Etive Mhor in a monsoon and I actually had to get into the shower with all the gear on in order to get the gear to unweld, believe it or not and we were abso frozen. the Mr had hypothermia. …well… AND these four rooms are up above the kitchen and dining room, the steps to the rooms being at the back door, and you turn left at the top. I think it is 4 but it could be 6, Of these two, one is far bigger and let’s face it some of the rooms we have stayed in there have been little better than cupboards. No disrespect, just the way it is, though one time we had to take a room tucked away off the motel style bit on the side, , it was like for a party of folks and it was all there was, so they gave us discount and it was huge. We get discount on another of these four rooms cos it is right above the kitchen but it is smaller.

Son is as well. The 4 and 7, 6 and 9 combo get him. Number Dyslexia is on his health record. Maybe I’m imagining it but I’m sure the times I’ve stayed there we had no bath, just a shower. But that might just have been The Talisker…..

I just can’t do numbers. Like at primary in the days when they had this disgusting top of the class and all …it was always the words that got me there and they had these graphs re the mental arith and hell the slaggings re the how can you be that when you got 1 out of 10 for your mental five days in a row was just what you learned to live with. Phone numbers?? Forget it. That is your basic 6 numbers on a house phone. Let us not even get to mobiles. What I do know cos it is the written biz of them as in a formula I can’t get, re the Clachaig is , only 4 rooms have baths, the rest have showers. So yeah you will have been there.

with or without the Talisker. Sorry my net collapsed there before I could say two things.. one –when you are there it doesnae matter at the end of the day sometimes what you have. I think the Talisker suite sounds ace. Two… tel James I am glad to know I am not alone re the numbers. For many years I thought it was just me. And yes it is combos.

No your not. Sadly schools don’t understand it. Think it’s made up but it’s on his medical record….. xx

Well, there you go. All the years I just thought it is me who gets in this mess with these numbers. It is the low ones. Even our present phone number has a 4 in it. and the thing every time is between 5 and 4. I am fine with the 7s 8s and 9s.

I may have gotten an 81, but I think one of my tosses wasn’t quite legal, so I tried to keep practicing to make it official. All I ended up doing was making my shoulder sore. Hmmmmph. Ah, but I’m still in the lead so I shan’t complain. 😆
