Red sky at night fishermen’s delight, doesn’t always work. The next morning it’s absolutely chucking down. Maybe it’s good weather to catch fish.

My Dad loved fishing. My brother loves fishing. They would take me to see them fish from the sea walls and in the local lake. I found it fascinating but it just wasn’t for me. I get the relaxation bit. I will happily sit on a sea wall or by water and just chill out. But you can keep the fishing bit. I only went actual fishing once. My brother took me to the local fishing lake for an afternoon. He caught loads, me – not a thing. Brother put that down to my casting action. To me catching something would have been a huge surprise. Whisper it quietly. I never put a fishing hook on my line.

I’ve subsequently been close to fishing a couple of times. I once played a fishing game on the computer. Wow that was a thriller….. The other was at a Fun Fare where I played that ‘hook a duck’ game. I was hoping to win a Cuddly Snoppy Toy and ended up with a real goldfish in a bag. Thank god that’s been banned. That fish was taken straight home and put in our indoor fish tank. My Dad loved tropical fish. But my little fish just kept growing. Soon he was too big for the tank so one summer he was moved out into the garden pond. That’s the pond which was under the protection of our big and mad family dog. And still he grew. Eventually he was even getting too big for his outside home. Finally he was resettled in a massive fish pond in the local park. That was a military operation requiring a huge bucket of water and sneaking over the locked gates. Tom Cruise has nowt on me…

As it’s possible for some types of fish to reach three figure ages, I like to think that my one ever fish catch is still going strong. Lord knows how big he is now. I do always keep an eye out for him in the Jurassic World movies.

  1. If I hear any reports of a Megalodon being discovered, I know who to blame 😉

I’m with you on the fishing thing, though. I don’t need a bootful of angling equipment just to go and sit by a lake.

  2. I went fishing once with my hubby. He was very strict about not speaking in a normal voice in case we scared the fish away. Having a conversation in whispers was annoying. I can happily sit on a dock and stare at the water for long lengths of time, just don’t try to put a fishing pole in my hands.

    Have a great day.

  3. Smiling… Laughing at “wow that was a thriller.” 😂 A neighbor’s dad took my little brother and I fishing at a nearby dyyk. Filthiest river. You have to throw everything back. I caught a bullhead. It was exciting! Yes, I was born to fish. 😂

      1. 😂 What is that supposed to mean? Are you saying that Canadians have attitude? 😂 You might be right…… Oh, I so hope it’s a good attitude. My challenges need an extraordinary attitude. Yep… super powers.

      2. 😀 Yes, I like both of those shows. Canada isn’t half bad. We have a few loveable characters and the mountains are amazing. Always love a drive through the mountains.

  4. I used to love to go fishing … knew how to bait a hook ‘n everything! But, I always tossed them back into the lake, for I couldn’t bear to kill them. I haven’t been in … oh, probably 20 years or more, but I once enjoyed it. When Miss Goose was about 3, we had a babysitter, Phil, who lived near a lake with fish, and she knew how to fish long before reaching her 4th birthday. Today, I think I wouldn’t have the patience for it and would be cussing at the fish for being too slow!

      1. Believe it or not, there are some who will do that. It’s rather counter-productive, though, for it shreds the fish and he’s no longer edible. People are stupid. Sigh.

  5. I was taken fishing once. I called in sick so I could go. I got sea sick. We got bitten by mosquitoes. It was a bust. Besides I didn’t want to catch a fish in the first place. What an idiot.

  6. The only time I was fishing was when I played “Fishin’ Around” with my daughter when she was a toddler… lol! I would never try to catch a fish… but yes, I love relaxing at the waters.

  7. Lol, love it. My dad taught me fishing, largely cos when he was on the council one of the perks was free fishing at Loch of Lintrathen where the council had a big run down boat and boathouse and at the time that was quite a day spent there for a girl from Fintry. Cos sometimes I’d get to take a pal, or one his mates would bring their son or daughter and we’d spend hours roaming the banks. But he also taught me to row so I’d have to row the boat for them all. And yes, hands up I can cast a line. But I haven’t fished since then.

      1. It is lovely and in these days it was totally away from it all. Even though where I lived was like living in an outpost at that time and is totally different now, it was another world. It even took an age to get there on the narrow, winding roads. The freedom was of its time too. As was the fact that I couldn’t swim a stroke and there were no life jackets. At the end of the day, the catch had to be weighed in and I actually think I still have cuttings re that. Yeah, happy memories indeed.

  8. We took the girls to catch crawdads in a little creek once. We used a safety pin on a bit of string and for bait we used bologna. We caught a bunch too😂😂 we kept them in a bucket of water until we were ready to leave, then tossed em back.

I’ll play “Go Fish” but, naw… I’d rather just sit and watch too. I like my fish in the water where they belong or battered, fried and served with chips TYVM!💌

  9. I went fishing in NZ with Bro and caught the first fish, which also happened to be the only snapper of the day.
Ah, goldfish at the fair. Dad had an old ambulance which we went camping in amongst other things, Sis and I both won fish at the fair and brought them back in the blood bank!

  10. Lol you are so funny

Well I do not like to bait the hook – or take the fish off – or touch them lol …

I do like fishing though 🎣

My dad used to take us fishing most weekends when we were little … he would record fishing shows while we were gone fishing lol… and then we would come home and watch fishing 🤨😄…that I didn’t like lol

I liked the fishing but not watching it on tv lol

I only like casting my line and hooking something… I don’t eat fish 🎣… so I would always let it go

I have a friend who does Bass Fishing professionally 😮 that is crazy!

But I just like the peace of fishing and being with family or friends ❤️
