Love seeing a deep blue sky. Today we had glimpses. Nice while it lasted, which wasn’t very long. But it’s better than nothing.

Thankfully we have been able to secure a replacement for his lovely nurse counsellor. Might actually get a consultation sometime in August. Even better it will be in our garden. So Hawklad won’t be stressed out at the thought of travelling 30 miles to the hospital. It’s something. It’s another start. The first stages will be to see if son can build up a link with the new person. These links don’t come easily. If a link is established then work can start on this germ anxieties and obsessive hand washing. It’s a long term project. Certainly won’t be seeing any results prior to the schools returning in September. It’s one step at a time. Some things go beyond my parenting capacity so I’m really thankful for any help.

Where does that leave going back to school. Nothing has changed. It’s still Hawklads call. I just can’t see how he can go back given his fears of touching any surfaces. Even the expert health opinion is that any return is unlikely any time soon for him. It might take months of work to start to see any progress and progress is not guaranteed. The school situation complicates things. On the one hand our PM is saying schools are perfectly safe to open without observing social distancing. On the other hand schools are being warned to make plans for shutdowns starting in October. It’s just a mess.

So I need to make plans for both homeschooling and for a return to the classroom. Must admit I’m currently too tired to think straight on these matters. I will leave it for a week or so. Let’s see if we can sort out a true staycation. Might do both of us good to have break from the worries. Given we won’t be leaving our own little word, maybe staycationing is another way of saying doing the same stuff, just don’t worry about schooling. Sadly it’s still not really Tent in the Garden weather. We need a little more blue skies. That would be nice…..

  1. I really hope your school situation gets better. Ours is completely out of hand, I have decided to completely homeschool our son for the new school year but we haven’t made plans as to who will take care of him once the work from home situation is over ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

    Hoping for more blue skies!

  2. That is what I did too. I just sat and waited before making any decisions to see what time was going to do. I think it is great your son got reassigned and the meeting is in your garden. I hope that goes well and is a huge help for him (and therefore, you as well).

  3. No wonder you’re tired – that’s a lot to worry about! I will be praying for beautiful blue skies so you can enjoy every moment of your staycation. I am so glad a nurse is coming to you so you won’t have to expose Hawklad to the stressors of a hospital visit. Hang in there, my friend.

  4. Positive result on your nurse consultant. Double whammy that she is coming to you!
Feel for you on the schooling issues though. Hopefully you can resolve that too.
If you can’t pitch a tent in the garden for your staycation, can you improvise in a room? I remember as a kid throwing blankets over Mum’s clothes horse.

  5. No decision needs to be made just yet and the situation is ever changing right now. I can see most kids being home schooled again because of schools shutting down so the choice may not be there to make anyway. I hope that isnโ€™t the case and my two need to go back. Especially my 15 year old.

Having the help from a new nurse counsellor is really positive, I am keeping it all crossed that your son forms an attachment with her and you both have the help you really deserve x

  6. I didn’t know your son suffered from OCD. My older son also does and also has an anxiety about germs and washes his hands obsessively. That is just one of his many compulsions. I am sending him back to school in September if the schools are open.

  7. Fantastic news! Or “potentially” fantastic. Wait and See seems to be the 2020 motto. Don’t want to depend on anything for sure. I really DO hope it works out though. Hawklad is just miserable with anxiety and it would be great for you both to have help alleviating it.

Now, blue skies… ummmm… you live in Yorkshire. From everything you’ve described, you’re S.O.L. on the the blue skies ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’Œ๐Ÿ’Œ

  8. Beware the word “progress”! Who is defining it, and who is using it in consideration of your son? Progress cannot be used in the idea of making Hawklad employable, but it can when used to helping him understand good and bad as it refers to his place in the world. As a social worker, I learned to never trust a professional who liked using the word progress. I tried to avoid its use at all costs.

  9. I’m so glad to hear that you got a replacement. So glad! That’s an answer to prayer. Been asking that He’d send some help. Hoping and praying you get those blue skies too.
