It’s Sunday so it must be time for our weekly virtual trip to one of the worlds most beautiful countries. It’s time for a little bit of Switzerland. So while we are wandering amongst The Alps let’s consider a few random facts about this wonderful country.
- Switzerland is one of the main filming locations for Bollywood movies,
- Einstein’s most famous equation about Energy was developed while he lived here,
- Guess where the Swiss Army Knife was invented…..
- It has the largest nuclear shelter in the world,
- The majority of the world’s luxury watches come from Switzerland,
- It has four national languages. Romansch, German, French and Italian,
- Most transport announcements are also made in English,
- It has its priorities right. Education is really well funded and teachers are well paid.
- It’s original name was Helvetia,
- The country does not have an official animal. Many think it is the bear but actually if you spend anytime here then you will quickly realise that it should be the Cow,
- Monte Rosa is its highest mountain at 15203ft,
- Switzerland has many laws protecting animals. Dogs can eat in restaurants. Social animals must be kept in pairs. If one of the pair dies you must replace it. This applies to small animals like Guinea Pigs,
- Switzerland is always in the top 3 countries for life expectancy,
- The worlds largest particle physics laboratory lies beneath Switzerland,
- The Swiss love chocolate. They eat over 11 kilos of chocolate per person each year. Yet they have the least obese population in the whole of Europe,
The final random fact. Many believe that Scotland is the home of golf. Wrong. It’s Switzerland.
It isn’t Sunday here. I live in the past. Yeah, Chocolate doesn’t make me obese either. I don’t think I eat that much chocolate a year though, so that’s probably why. 😀

Very interesting facts, not one of which I knew, in spite of the fact that I’ve been in Switzerland. We loved it, too. It was the place we chose to stay the longest during our 9-week driving tour of Europe.

What else can I comment on? Oh, Einstein was a genius for living in Switzerland. Good call on that one. 😀

I have officially spammed your page. What you going to do about it? 😀 Consider this payback. 😀 You know what I mean. Sidewalks are good for walking down the side of the road. Standing on them is frowned upon in Canada.

I’ve been spammed. Standing on sidewalks or sideboards is a dangerous business. Especially when your in Canada. Much safer to live in a hole in the ground in Yorkshire. So basically I’m going to hide…..🤪😀

😂 No, it’s not safer. The hole will flood. 😀

Another hole? For drainage? My mind is trying to figure out this puzzle. 😀

It’s the old comedy dig your way out of prison joke. When they ask where the escapees hid the tunnel soil, the response is – we dug another hole. Thinking about it I have no idea what I was thinking about. Clearly I’ve started spamming myself. 😀

Love the pictures and the facts! Very cool about education and also the life expectancy one! Wonder what makes the difference.
Thsy havs ths BEST chocolate! When we visited we walked into a shop and I think picked one of each kind. LOL! Then sat and ate them by the lake. 🙂
I would have thought the mountain goats with the bells around their necks was their Animal! I watched Heidi after all. 🙂

Oh thank you, thank you! Swiss Sunday on Saturday Night is exactly what I needed. Your pictures are so beautiful, I’m always captivated by the water. I could eat 11 kilos of chocolate a year. I’d want to eat all the CHEESE too!! I’m a fiend for cheese. Fun facts too. Other countries could learn from the Swiss.
Thank you for always making my Saturday Nights peaceful and refreshing with a virtual trip to breathtaking Switzerland!💌💌

Fascinating facts. When I collected stamps in the ’50s Swiss ones always bore the name Helvetia. I wonder whether that is still so.

Aaaaaaw, the little Hawklad loves his minigolf just like my 3 B’s! Biff’s always eager to play at a course with lots of “secret passages,” as he puts it–where a single hole can have multiple tunnels and the like to reach it. There’s a few like this up north. So long as we didn’t bother keeping score, the kids have a ball…(ba dum CH!)
Anytime you share these little wonders of Switzerland, I am amazed more people do not move there. We are stubbornly rooted, I suppose…but there’s also, maybe, that we also find those secret joys where we are that are often overlooked by others? That’s my take and hope. x And I hope you’re well, too, Friend. xxxxxxxxx

The Swiss love crazy golf. So many places to play. Even see it in the TV. Our boy would have to carefully explore every hidden tunnel on each hole. I would happily move there today. Different way of life. A better way of life. They seem to get the importance of education. You would be valued and paid more. We are holding our own, which is something. Hoping you are doing well. Look after yourself my friend xxxxxxx

Hawklad might like the US show “Holey Moley”. It’s mini/crazy golf meets Ninja Warrior (actually, Wipeout… but I don’t know if you get that show).

I am running out of adjectives. LOL such absolute beauty cannot be described, not really. Fun facts here, I did think golf came from Scotland (where did that come from, maybe the Scots are better at marketing golf?) Thanks for the visit to Switzerland – really wonderful pics.

I love the facts about chocolate and golf lol ❤️ I zoned in on those
I also love both those things lol
I always think of hot chocolate when I think of the Swiss (but that’s probably from a marketing campaign 😘✌️)
Also cough drops lol

Yeah it does ❤️ should have its own food group! Lol
I think I remember last Friday’s world McDonald’s videos showing the Swiss had a Toblerone McFlurry – we do not have that!! I would like that!! Lol
All we have is Oreos and M&Ms 🤨 neither of which I want in a flurry lol
LikeLiked by 1 person
That would be an awesome flurry. x
LikeLiked by 1 person
Right??? Why they not do that worldwide? Why are the Swiss the only ones?? Keeping treasures lol
LikeLiked by 1 person
I know, that would be so cool here as well. Last time we looked we had a few flurry options – maltesers was one.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Nope ours is only Oreo or M&M’s 🤨 although I also have not been in awhile – but they don’t usually vary… they used to have peanut butter cup one, which that one I liked – but they took that away! So whatever lol
They also took away the chocolate dipped ice cream cones – they still have the ice cream cones but no chocolate dip… I want the chocolate dip lol
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes they do oreo’s as well. That was not great when I tasted it.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yeah I don’t like either of those. The Oreo is ok, but I just don’t get them…
I used to have issues putting weight ON lol … I would have to try whatever I could to do that so used to try all those
I don’t have that issue anymore – had that fixed lol … I’m like a car, have had a lot of repairs and even replaced the headlights 😄😄✌️ Lol
