Here is a regular nighttime visitor to our garden. Will come to within a couple of feet of the front door. The badger is surprisingly big and muscular. A few times we have had standoffs in the garden. Stopping a badger attack on a hedgehog or when the badger has decided to try and dismantle the bird feeder. The badger stands his or her ground. Definitely chased me off a couple of times. Clearly no regard is given to vegetarians. In my defence I am a city boy and a massive coward. Wasps send me scurrying for cover.

But now I find the The Badger has no musical taste. Last night I forgot that I had left a delivery outside. Our son likes deliveries to air outside for at least a few hours as part of our pandemic protocols. Anyway I had bought myself a really cheap second hand cd and a brush. I was in the kitchen cleaning up when I heard a right racket outside. Had to be the badger. I assumed the bird feeder had been destroyed again. But no. The delivery packaging was strewn all over the lawn. No sign of the brush but near the bird feeder was my cd. Clearly The Badger had no interest in taking my music.

Not liking Alice Cooper. What a philistine.

  1. I haven’t seen one of these yet, but our neighbors dog dug up a mole the other day, and we saved it (my son’s girlfriend had never seen one and scooped it up with a cardboard box and took it to an adjacent empty lot). It quickly burrowed into the sand and was gone. ❤️😉

  2. My lord, that is a beast. I would not tangle with that. We have all sorts of wildlife in our garden but this far no badgers. As for not liking Alice Cooper , plainly has never heard the song, ‘ badger’s out for the summer..’.

  3. It clearly needs the brush, but has zero taste in music! We get opposums… they are ugly but harmless. We also have rats, not NY City sewer rats, but a pain in the posterior nonetheless. You’d think with two cats and Dogzilla, all the wildlife would skedaddle… shows how ferocious the pets are, eh?🤣🤣🤣

  4. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a badger but when we were living our in the country in Ontario I had a few run-ins with raccoons. (Do you have raccoons in the U.K.?) They can be quite large, at least the ones I am thinking of were quite big. Yeah I ran away a couple of times too. Beggars were trying to get in the house and I was once woken up by one scratching on the window screen. Scared the dickens out of me.

  5. I wouldn’t take on a badger either, although in defense of a hedgehog, maybe. I challenged a raccoon last summer as it attacked a blind, deaf old possum. Of course I didn’t realize at the time it was rabid. Fortunately I scare raccoons as well as babies.
