Another grey and damp morning. Now where did I put that brilliant and always helpful Parenting Guide again…..
I had an email from school. One of those emails that immediately sent me scurrying for safety behind the sofa.
It’s a legal requirement for school to deliver sexual health education in Year 9. The education will be across a number of lessons. It will cover Relationships, Puberty, Sexual Transmitted Diseases, contraception and other sexual health issues.
As Hawklad is not in school, the teacher will send me the lesson materials and I was asked if ‘The parents would be ok delivering the material to your son…..”. Well that will be me then.
As I see it I have basically four options
Say No
Continue to hide behind the sofa
Deliver the material
OR just show him an episode of South Park.
Thanks for the smile π

Not an easy decision! I might want to stay behind the sofa. Maybe first move the sofa into the basement. π

Oohh, that is a tough lesson. I had to go through the unexpected virtual class lesson from school with Catelyn this year and they gave me way more than I expected. You can do this!

OMG I could only smile at this and feel a bit of a knot in my stomach for you.. I blew Mum off when she tried to give the sex talk.. I remained ignorant rather than front my shame and fear… and that had some bad consequences, that said we are just human and I get it .. totally… β€

Know well your feeling of trepidation π¦ I raised two sons alone. They were six and eight years old when their father abandoned us in Brazil to return to our native land of Guyana. I used the popular Brazilian telenovelas (soap operas) to discuss such topics when raised.

As comments show, itβs definitely a tough topic. π€£
In all seriousness, you know your son way better than the school system. Whatβs the harm in saying. βYep, weβve got it covered.β And then wait until you feel itβs the right time to talk/teach about it? π

I started talking about it early, and often with my girls. It made their father extremely uncomfortable, he couldn’t even use the proper medical names for the parts, let alone talk about relationships and intercourse and gasp! masturbantion…πππ
In all seriousness, I’d be willing to answer any questions from a female point of view, or technical questions about how stuff works.π I *am* a Scientist nowππ¬π§¬ππ©πΌβπ¬
Hawklad is smart enough, he might already know more than you think. He might be able to teach youπππ

When I was in the eighth grade also known as Junior High School. The teacher of my health class, both male and a Christian, had a guy from the health dept. come into to our class of boys only. His message was go ahead and have all the sex we wanted just take precautions so we wouldn’t become infected with VD otherwise known today as STD’s.
Then during the 10th grade in high school I took the Child Care class and actually worked in the daycare this class operated. One day all of the Child Care classes were merged together and we were required to watch a very graphic movie of a woman giving birth. Absolutely nothing was left to the imagination.
The kicker is that I was the only boy in a classroom filled with girls watching a film that under other circumstances would have been rated XX for Pornography.
I just sat there enjoying the show while keeping my mouth shut.

I thought so too. Back then it never crossed my mind that that experience would make a funny story well over 40 yrs later. π
