Trying to figure out if Captain Chaos was starting on his first ever snowman. If it is then he was making a good start on his project. That was until the thaw came along….

I definitely could do with making a good start on a project this morning. I think that we can officially call it. I’m moping around today. Feeling frustrated, flat and bored. Hawklad is cracking in with homeschooling. Needs me infrequently. It’s pouring down outside so can’t really get any fresh air in the garden. Cant pop out. Can’t go for a run. Can’t go to visit anyone. Wasn’t in the mood for music or TV. Housework to be done but not in the mood for it. No work available (going to be that way for months). Can’t seem to settle down to anything at present. Quickly seem to lose interest.

So I’m kind of just moping. Sometimes sat down. Sometimes walking aimlessly around the house. Had a few of those days recently.

Maybe it’s better to call it ‘pottering about’ rather than moping.

So I’m just going to keep on pottering. Feeling just a bit detached from life. I guess I’m not the only one feeling that way.

  1. That’s great that Hawklad is ‘cracking on’ with the homeschooling.
As for ‘moping,’ I’d call it ‘time out,’ with a need to relax into it until the spark of energy returns.
Or, of course, you could get on the exercise bike and go like mad to de-stress and move quicker than your thoughts. 😊🌻☀

  2. Gary, try taking a song and making a parody of BoJo, or even better, your Minister of Education, whatever the asshat’s name is. I bet you can come up with some great bad poetry lyrics. I’m working on a parody of Africa by Toto as we communicate. The chorus is complete, the verses a bit harder:
Trump took the train down through Africa
The shithole countries would not let him fly in
Wanted to show him they were just as human
    As the people in America
Their rich cousins who exploited them

Makes me feel much better, writing something fun, but serious.

    1. I agree. I wonder if setting a day aside to have a high tea 🥪 ☕️ 🧁 🍰 and cooking some of the contents would be a project? You could book it on the calendar, make it something special and perhaps do it Hatter style? 🎩

      1. I do love calendars, technology doesn’t do it for me. Visual reminder, static, this day, that week, next Thursday… Dates to plan ahead, dates to keep or ignore.

      2. It’s called the sponge effect, because a sponge can only hold so much and then the contents drip out. Try a kids memory song for instance, as these get more and more and more things added to them they get harder. Right now rummaging in ye oldee YouTubey for one and here it is, but that because you are not a kid you need to increase the [Setting] speed to 2 before you press play. Sing along Beloved BABASP I double dare you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4wfyhUwAsM It’s a bit like that for Pre-donning Protocol Entertainment (PPE) where there’s a sequence and when you do it all correctly at the right pace, you get a gold star. 🤪

  3. It is a daily challenge getting through the pandemic and losing my best friend/soulmate/partner to a heart attack in November. I finally wrote out a list on my blog of what is working and what is not working for me at this time. I feel your boredom and pain. You are not alone.

  4. Oh yeah… pottering, moping, aimlessly wandering… yep! 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’ve had a few days like that. Cant concentrate on anything, lots of stuff that *needs* doing, but can’t be bothered.
I got hooked on wood turning videos on YouTube. They’re very relaxing.
    It’s just another day… (isn’t that a song?)

  5. Gary, I can relate. Been in my house as for weeks now. Well always am but more lately. It’s so hard and understand this. I pushed myself out for a walk yesterday. It’s been so child and the snow has passed so I knew I should get out and walk the cemetery I find peaceful and I pushed forward. It was a struggle my heart wasn’t in it but I did. As I did, I thought of you how you walked to the cemetery. It’s amazing how that little bit of different scenery can help lift the spirits a. Bit. Rain is hard for me as well. I hope you can find something to get through those days. How about a blank piece of paper and a pen and just write what comes. I do that. It helps. Thinking of you. ❤️

      1. It could be a right adventure, maybe having to climb down the stairs head first to the cave tent, base camp? Sounds like there needs to be planning in it. 📝 Of course then there’s the taboggan 🛶 down the stairs using sleeping bags. Eating out of a saucepan. Washing using wet wipes.

  6. I can imagine this feeling. Just not feeling like doing anything, and at the same time, feeling unhappy for not feeling like doing anything… I hope there is a bit of sun coming along to lift up your mood quickly, Gary.
