A really special tree. All by itself on an exposed little hill. This angle shows the impact of a few too many storms and a couple of direct lightning strikes. Definitely much bigger and a little more symmetrical when we first moved here a couple of decades ago.

Having said that I bet the tree is saying something similar about me. Not quite the same human than he was 20 years ago.

Definitely a bit heavier. My old baggy goalkeeper top has become a trendy skin tight one. Let’s say it’s all more muscle…. 🙀

But that made me think about other stuff which has changed over those 20 years.

Parenting

Bereavement

Hair….🤯 (maybe the two above are the cause of that….)

Stopped drinking alcohol

Stopped drinking coffee

My dress sense has improved (did I really wear that stuff)

Body has decided to disagree with lots of stuff I liked 20 years ago (caffeine, dairy, garlic, oats, baked beans, raw onions, gluten, spicy stuff, liquorice, fizzy drinks, apples, peanuts)

Over those 20 years they clearly have been making mobile phone screens and book lettering much smaller and more blurred

Memory has gone the same way as my eyesight

Seemingly can’t get out of a chair now without making audible noises

Can now seem to understand what the Tellytubbies and Clangers say

Now older than many world leaders

20 years ago I was a bit of a computer expert and now even the TV remote control is beyond me

20 years ago I would spend hours setting up my mobile to be the perfect fit for my lifestyle and now I just hand it to my son to sort it out

Developed a liking for beige things

I’ve become much more Homer Simpson than Bart

Can now get into a One Legged Pigeon position…..

Ok that last one I can get into the position but there are no guarantees I can get out of the pose. So surprise surprise, in those 20 years I’ve got older. Older yes. Bigger yes. Creakier yes. Wiser – not entirely sure……

  2. That made me think of the past 20 years in my life… I can relate to quite some points you made here… lol. Most of all the noise when getting up from the chair or when I sat on the floor.

    But here à round you and your friends can learn in preparation for real aging, lol:

    Now I’m 60, groovy, wow!

    I actually wrote that in my 50s, in preparation. Now it’s a younger man’s song…

  5. I’ve noticed that lettering — on screens and on paper — has been getting smaller and more difficult to read over the years. I’m sure it’s just a conspiracy to force me into bifocals 😉

    As for hair… I’d best not go there 😉

  7. Welcome to middle age! Enjoy it while it lasts!! Advice from one who is officially “senior”, keep up the body work! My exercise routine is the only thing that saved me from being in seriously bad shape. I too had to give up all sorts of foods. But yes, we get wisdom of a sort. It’s called experience.

  13. Driving home from work a few days ago, I diverted especially to see that tree similar and it’s gone! The field is bare soil in rows and where it was just seems to be a big puddle now. No trace of it, I was quite saddened, I’m not happy to see the loss of such a tree.

      1. Pressured perhaps to make the most of the land to produce for a profit, to make ends meet? or a greedy farmer who hasn’t the future of the planet in mind. Who knows why others do what they do? What are the future people of the planet learning?

  25. Have any of us gotten wiser, though? Perhaps with a few more book smarts, maybe a street smart or two, but that’s about it, I think. 🙂 HI! This tree is gorgeous, and it reminds me of a few I’ve seen in the farm fields out here. I’ve never been able to capture a photo like this, though, never with such a gorgeous sunset. Beauty of creation right here.

      1. We’re doing fine, I think. All healthy and whole, and my broken computer should FINALLY get returned to me next week. I hate being so limited to the old computer in the freezing basement. Being on my work computer should allow me some more time on here, too–Yay!

      3. Alas, that one totally died. 😦 This is the new f***ing laptop I bought with plasma money in 2019. Hinge already started breaking last summer, but this month it was on the verge of coming off. At least I had a warranty to cover the repair, but still, it’s been gone almost a month. UGH.
