Yesterday our Police cracked down on a peaceful candle lit vigil. A vigil where everyone in the crowd was wearing a mask. Cracked down on an outpouring of public grief. A show of solidarity with the basic right of every woman to be safe on our streets. Arrests were forcibly made. The reason – to comply with Government Covid Rules. The demonstration represented a public health risk. Even though it was outside and masked.

In 8 hours schools will be open. Lessons will be inside, in poorly ventilated, cramped rooms and largely unmasked. This apparently does not represent a public health risk. Parents are threatened with legal action from the Government if they fail to send their children into school.

My country has become a dangerously messed up place to live. The priorities of those in charge becoming more warped by the minute. Later this week the Government plans to go further and crack further down on protests. Even single person protests.

The tide has to change before more good people are hurt.

    1. It is hard for those brought up in factory-fodder / cannon-fodder systems, to see clearly how it sets out to make an us-and-them schema, that strips away at independent peace orientated thoughts.

  6. The police crackdown was a vigil about violence against women. How ironic. What a clear tableau showing what is wrong at heart with our society.
    The tagline used by many police forces in our province is, “To Serve and Protect.”

  7. Crazy crazy. It seems as thought mainly self-serving uninformed people are being elected into public office. We have a shift, but the old guard are blocking progress at every turn. Frustrating.

    I hate to see peaceful vigils turn violent, but I hope the citizens continue to fight back! People need to take their governments back! Voting is the best way, but keep exercising the right to protest.
    I have to go find this story and read about it now… freakin BoJo and his “advisors”🙄🤦🏼‍♀️

  14. I seen clips of this on Twitter after rightly so everyone complaining how it was handled and like you have said, they were masked and outside, compared to what is happening in schools. Those people were also sat at distance and as far as I was concerned, the police were breaking distance by breathing down their necks before forcibly removing them.
    I think they don’t want to witness us demostrating and that’s what they are worried about.
    I already know of two demostrations to come. One which is close to my heart and will be done legally (no more than max of 6,or whatever guudeline by then), which is protest of how older people have been treated in care homes, to highlight how #EssentialFamilyCarer needs to be enshrined as law, because many care homes are still not following latest guidance and so many are not getting to see or hold their loved ones.
    Another protest is in London and so I wouldn’t be surprised if that one will end up being big,which is to protest about the lockdown.

  15. The irony of a violent clampdown at a gathering protesting against violence was not lost on me.

    I hadn’t really thought about schools, but you’re absolutely right — if it’s safe for pupils to gather indoors, then an outdoor gathering is even safer.

  16. This was disgusting.. I just saw images on Facebook about it.. We had our womens sexual abuse rights rally today, the Prime Minister never even made the effort to acknowledge it or attend.. Its terrible how they treated the women at that rally… thank you for posting this.. its so hard to feel you can be overpowered or put down by men at any time.. its needs to end. ❤

  27. The U.S. is using a similar playbook, trying to legislate or police people into silence.

    It’s never worked before and it won’t work now, but it’s disgusting what they put us through in the meantime.
