Where did that summer school break go. Just over a week left now and the weather is suitably moody as well.

Something hasn’t really properly sunk in until now. This is Hawklad’s last proper school summer holiday. He leaves school in under one year now. Yes some will get another summer break before college starts but others could jump into a job straight away – official end of childhood according to society.

Where did those years go.

Still no clearer on the educational path ahead. Kinda feeling like I’m going round in circles as a parent. What’s right, what’s wrong, what works, what might not work. What’s best for Hawklad’s future, what’s best for Hawklad now.

I really don’t know anymore.

One thing I do know for sure. I wish I could reset this summer break. Go back 5 weeks and make SUMMER last just that bit longer. Hawklad probably needs that. I definitely need that.

  1. It did seem to pass quickly and it is daunting considering the final year so I can well imagine it must be the more so for you. But I know you will find the right path together. I send you best wishes.

  2. Summer has gone by way to fast for us too and as they say when parenting the days are long but the years are short. It couldn’t be more true. I wish you had more time too. Maybe a father son fishing trip on the weekend? Maybe an adventure to a coffee shop or some stolen hours hearing about his plans for the future? I hope you can find the time.

  4. I know it may not feel that way sometimes, Gary, but as someone observing as a stranger from the outside, you are doing an amazing job to support Hawklad in finding his way. I hope you both enjoy the rest of your summer and best wishes with the return to school. And I hear ya, I do wish summer was just a tad bit longer too!

  5. If it feels like you’re hurtling down a hill with no brakes, you’re in good company. A great many people I know have expressed the same thing. Trust that you’re being guided to do the right thing – even if it doesn’t always seem that way. When the mists cover the path ahead to the point you just can’t discern what you have to do, again trust that you’ve done all you can for the moment. Step back and wait. The time to act will come.
