As bizarre as it may seem, but we did have trips which didn’t involve Switzerland. And as hard as it seems to me, trips that happened before Hawklad. A time before I had digital, so it’s been time to try out the scanner.
France about twenty years ago, a hot summer in the Loire Valley.
The Loire if I remember right is known as something like the Garden of France, a perfect description. In our experience, it’s also ‘if you want to see a glorious Chateau, Loire is the place to be.’
Chateau de Villandry is almost 500 years old and in those years they have been working on the gardens. Really really really working. We came here twice and I’m sure with more years, we would have come again and again.
Now can I get my garden looking like these……

Amazing pictures of a beautiful place

Just beautiful, my friend! You did a wonderful job scanning the pictures. The gardens are gorgeous (yes, I wish I had gardens such as that; but I’d probably be out of place if there weren’t trees or wildflowers –or weeds, lol). But even more gorgeous–the gal. Many hugs and prayers, always! ❣️❣️🙏🤗

Well, if you want a garden, plant a garden. Start putting seeds in pots in the window, ready for planting out when they’re big enough to withstand the slugs and weather. You might want to check for socks 🧦 in the planting holes first though, knowing what we know about the pup.

Is there any chance that a trip to a nearer venue would help Hawklad towards revisiting Switzerland?

It’s probably worth trying to find somewhere he can feel safe at first and build from that.

You’re right about the Loire, its chateaux and their gardens.

I would love to explore some of those old chateaux. It must be a challenge to preserve them never mind keeping the gardens so well.

I visited Chateau de Villandry two years ago, in early spring, and I tried to image what the gardens would be like in full bloom. Thanks for giving me this visual. We met the owner of of the Chateau who told us about the Association of Castle/Chateau owners to which he belonged and some of the challenges facing chateau owners. It was a new thought–that someone actually owned castles/chateaus–I had thought of them as museums held in trust. Lovely home and grounds.

It must take unbelievable amounts of time to put this together and patience to let it grow.

Wow! Now those are some gardens! I wish I had even a hundredth of the gardens. Although I love gardens and thought I’d always have pretty gardens, I discovered that I dislike weeding and after chasing my son around, I didn’t have the energy it takes to garden when everything I planted was eaten by slugs or deer. Today I do very little gardening – mostly in a few large pots – and the plants that survive slugs and deer are what I have: lavender, mint, rosemary, blueberries, one rose, and a few other herbs. I hope you get to travel soon.

Completely weedless and all the edges are perfectly straight. It’s unbelievable.

They look almost too perfect to be real, I spent ages trying to spot one weed, no luck.
