Just a touch of blue sky and a shed load of cold. There are not enough layers for windy Yorkshire days like this.
Who am I….
Seems like an easy question. Not for me. My immediate answer is….
A single parent,
Or maybe
I could say widow.
Ask me that question say a decade ago and I probably would have answered,
A parent or maybe a working parent.
Ask me that question more than a decade ago and I think I would have answered,
An Accountant or my job title.
NO NO NO.
I might have well as answered a Newcastle Supporter. It’s not WHO I AM. My personality, my heart, how I think, my hopes, my loves, my , passions, my fears, my strengths, my many failings, what I believe in, what I believe is right and wrong. Surely I am not just a job or role label. But it shows that for too long I haven’t truly thought about who I am. That’s why when I’m thinking about it now, I’m struggling to really answer that question. Maybe I have for years just went along with what was expected of me, maybe I just acted out a stereotype or maybe I just avoided thinking about it. But surely who I am should be a key element when it comes to making decisions.
Much to think about, but on that walk through the woods, one thing I could definitely confirm…
I WAS COLD.
I would answer that you are a single parent doing the best they can for their child. That basically means that you putting the child before yourself which is an admirable trait.
It’s does mean however, that you tend to lose who you are somewhat.
Don’t sweat it, you are doing just fine.

It’s such a powerful question Gary that inspires deep thought and reflection. You know yourself best. But from what I can over here, I do know one thing. You are enough. 😊🙏🤗

Fresh air too and a good visual view, brings on a good mind’s view (unless you’re really upset, and then you need someone to be with you and help you to cling on). Nature is usually my therapist e.g. to see a bumblebee in spring. 🐝

We are all born to serve God. We live meaningless lives if we don’t follow Him. Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life; no-one comes to God except through Me (John 14:6). Jesus wants you to to cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). Only by repenting of sin and trusting in Jesus to guide your life are you spiritually safe for all eternity. I encourage you to prayerfully read The Holy Bible. Peace to you.

I’ll help you out there Mr G. You are an intelle~gent person, who has been passed through the sieve of grief and had all the unnecessary things tapped out into the sink, leaving a person who questions themselves and everything, instead of putting a label on. You’ve become more than a label could cover.

Thank you 🙏 . I chuckled when I read that old cooking label on a tv chefs food product, ‘prick with a fork….’

I tend not to like my answers to this. A brisk walk is good thinking time, but I often carry a camera as distraction. It’s no wonder that you ask.

Still not got an answer, yes a brisk walk sounds good

I gather there are a lot of cold people there just now but that is a lovely photograph. Who are you? It’s thought provoking. I thought when I retired I would become a nobody and in many ways I did but as you point out there are many layers to who we are. I think mostly we are too busy to consider them.

You’re a deep and faithful soul. You see what many miss.
When times are hard, you dig deep to keep giving, keeping almost nothing for yourself.
You’re a paradox: you love loud music but you have a quiet soul.

Good post Gary, and being cold, emphasises that you still Feel. So much is covered and applicable to that four letter word. It has endless depths. just as you do.

My friend, besides being cold, you are an amazing human. You’re not identified by what you do, love, losses, the wonderful boy raised, and many other things. I don’t know who I am most days other than, “A daughter of God”. That’s enough for now. I know another thing you are–an inspiration. 💕🙏
