A trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, a country estate with a large range of art scattered around the countryside. Some small pieces, some giants. Some by leading artists including the controversial Damien Hirst. Hawklad wouldn’t even let me take a photo of one particular statue ….

A sometimes mystifying but frequently stunning few hours. Unbelievably it was almost warm as well….

Definitely worth a visit.

  1. Where did you find these sculptures? All in one large natural preserve? OMG. I love them all, but I covet this one!!! (The arge stone with the concentric circular lines.)Are these all near your home? The sculptures surrounded by nature are stunning. Thanks so much for sharing.

  2. I love the large patined ball as well. So perfect in this setting. A contrast but not really an intrusion. It just calls attention to the beauty of nature around it.

  3. We have a much smaller version of that park nearby. I understand the appeal of displaying large art displays but at the same time I find it spoils the natural beauty of the park. Of course I had to look up Damien Hirst and I can see why Hawklad would have preferred you not to take photographs!

  4. I love that you have these large sculptures in a natural setting such as this park. They enhance the natural environment and add a charm and whimsy to it.

  5. When Number Two Son was playing at Wakefield I would often pss signs for the Sculpture Park, and the Coalmine Museum and the Hepworth gallery. We never seemed to have time to stop and visit. The one that really strikes home is the girl with the calipers – the collecting boxes with that design, and a few schoolmates with calipers, suddenly came flooding back into my mind.
