Scarborough Castle on the tropical Yorkshire coast.

An exposed seaside hill, great strategic yet horrible comfort location. Wind, rain, mist, wind, rain, mist, wind, rain, mist, never ending cycle here. The Weather, Vikings, Baron infighting, Tudor rebellions, a civil war and a WW1 Naval bombardment has taken its toll. Hawklad pointed out that he couldn’t understand why the German Navy didn’t invade this undefended part of the country. Plus given it’s Scarborough, the invading forces could have been here for years without anyone realising. It could have been the first successful invasion in over 700 years. A few boats, land on the beach, avoid the seagulls, rent a few holiday cottages, start to order a few bratwurst sausages from the local Spar shop, invasion sorted, course of history probably changed.

But sadly walking around here in the cold, windy drizzle, thoughts navigate back to more somber thoughts. This castle sat on this bleak cliff, show the marks of history over centuries. I wonder what any ghosts walking these ruins would say when they see we are still doing the same things, still making the same mistakes.

  1. To learn from your mistakes, you must be able to admit they were mistakes, and then analyze WHY they were mistakes, if indeed they were. Not everyone is cspable of admitting they make mistakes, and even fewer take the time to analyze them.
But why stop there? Why not incorporate your learning into your life? If you can do that then you learn you never made a mistake as such, but you gave yourself the opportunity to learn something about yourself, your life, or the world around you.
Saying you made a mistake is a negative condition that your ego usually abhors so it prevents you from learning. Be positive. Tell you ego to go blow, and use the opportunity to learn because that is what life is all about. If you aren’t learning, especially about yourself, are you really living?

  2. Hmm, it looks rather chilly in Scabby even though it’s just September, but funnily enough I don’t remember going to the castle and I have been in both summer and winter, and I have been there many times. Great pics though!

  3. We all learn over the years of life, then a fresh batch of people have to learn over their years. We could label things as mistakes or more positively as experience. I mean, there is no way I could have done my life differently, knowing what I knew and only having to hand what I had to hand, having what I had in mind then, not what I have in mind now.
