A few hardy souls braved a distinctly cold and windy Yorkshire beach.

Definitely felt like Autumn.

Definitely looked like Autumn. The small rides, the cafes, the ice cream vans had mostly all closed down and boarded up for the year. No more intrepid crazy golfers until next year.

I wonder what it feels like to be a resident here in Filey right now. Sadness that the summer season is over with the crowds departed OR relief to get their seaside town back again. The chance to walk quietly along the seafront again, to breathe.
I guess it’s a similar feeling that this time of year brings to our little hilltop village. With no village shop or school or pub or cafe. A church with only one service a month. It’s not unusual to not see another village soul for week upon week upon week. The short days, bleak weather and zero street lighting all ramp up the feelings. So what’s it going to be this time around. Peaceful solitude or suffocating isolation…..
I cast my lot with peaceful over suffocating. ~Ed.

I can’t imagine. Even during the pandemic, I still had the roar of freeway traffic.
The sun sets around 7 pm, but we had an ice cream truck drivin down the block at 8:30 last night.

I think we are long past ice cream this year now 😂

May peace wrap you like a warm blanket of blessings, comforting you as the winds of change and new seasons blow upon you both. As fast as time goes anymore, we will only blink before the lobster sees more mini-golfers, ice cream trucks, and sea goers blanket the surfaces. I returned from a trip to the beach and sent love and hugs to you both across the great pond. 💕🙏

sending you so many hugs ❤️. Even that lobster needs a holiday so he’s raring to eat golf balls next season ❤️

Well, if Someone else hasn’t created what you are looking for in your village, then Somebody could create it and hope that Everybody would join, but Nobody has to do it and might not, even though they might want Someone to organise it or Anybody for that matter, even though Everybody could actually do it really, most of the time things get done by the usual Dogsbody, but I’m just putting the idea out there as t’Internet Busybody.

we have the fun of the village Christmas fare to come with the vast array of cakes. I’ve never been brave enough to bring mine along….

I think the easy challenge is to just make those cornflakes covered in chocolate things, pretty cupcake papers, Bob’s your uncle and Fanny’s yer aunt. Jobs a good un.

Wishing you and Hawklad peaceful solitude, Gary. I know it can also feel isolating and hard but I hope you can find calm and relaxation in the quiet.
I am feeling the creep of autumn too with it being dark when I wake up for work. But winter comes and goes and it will be the light of Spring once again soon!

The end of the season approaches and we get our town back……… only we don’t. Holidaymakers still come as many have caravans or holiday flats now. Hope you have the peace and solitude you’d like.

Filey apparently has a hard core few who come during winter. I guess the quiet and bleakness is what they need.

That is a spectacular lobster, which is a sentence and a sentiment I have never needed before. Since lockdown and various problems I find I am able to feel isolated despite living in a semi-detached house. It’s all about how you look at things.

it’s a world class lobster. I was listening to a guy on the radio who lives in terraced housing and hadn’t seen his neighbours in months. He felt like he was living on an isolated island some days

We live in a row of semis – it’s much the same. I think it’s partly to do with the narrow field of view. I once moved to a new development on the edge of Preston and, after years of terraces, found it very confusing as you could see more people, but because of the curves, you couldn’t see as far as you could when loking down a terraced street. It felt more open and more claustrophobic at teh same time.

Hopefully “peaceful solitude.” With my region still firmly in summer’s grip, the first photo looks so inviting. 😊

the bleakness can be so beautiful but the weather can be a bit challenging when it’s this damp and windy. But then again I remember a relative living in the Middle East loving the cold in England when he came back

The cold can create a cozy vibe, especially if there is a fire nearby. 😊

I would imagine a bit of relief before boredom sets in. In our local area, I must admit to enjoying the beach scene without all the holiday makers, g-string strollers and their admirers.

Filey does get really too busy during hot weather, so the quiet is nice.
