Another glorious Yorkshire lunchtime…. A local amateur weather station has recorded so far 40 days of consecutive rain. Mostly not the biblical type of rain, often that dreaded Yorkshire Drizzle, blanking out the Sun, nithering, slowly seeping into your bones.
The kind of weather that even Count Dracula clearly thought too grim. In the novel, he arrived in Yorkshire during a storm and quickly scarpered.
But hope shines eternal.
As I walked through the sodden village, a hardy chap wearing about 30 layers of clothing was carefully weeding his soon to be planted flowerbeds. He looked up, smiled (might have been a grimace), and issued the immortal words
“I pigging hate the Yorkshire weather. Why do I keep living here. Lived here for over 70 years. Well, at least it’s perfect weather for my rhubarb. I do love my rhubarb and custard”.
I think it might well be a bumper rhubarb crop this year….
Gotta love Yorkshire weather. I worked in a National Hunt yard there in the early ’90s 🌧🌂
Meanwhile, we have epic flooding this summer … pretty much everywhere. And 30+°C with 95% humidity.
Ick. Over it.

I like rhubarb. Once, when living in Preston, I remember walking down the street and thinking I couldn’t remember the last dry day. Many years ago, working in South Africa, I was told you could always tell he new arrivals from the UK because we smelt damp.

I’m wishing for some rain here. The type that blots out noise and quietens the soul, that is, not the type that sticks around for 40 days and counting.

Uh, it looks just like dear old Ireland right now. Sodden fields… I’m seeing rivers and waterfalls down the back lane which never existed before! Your photos are very atmospheric.

You’ve stuck it out this long keep going 😉 As you mentioned at least it’s not the biblical type of rain that we’ve had a few times during this summer.

The rain may be worth it for the rhubarb! I love rhubarb and strawberry pie, rhubarb sauce, cake and so on. I hope it works out for you but rain can be so tiring. I grow rhubarb too.

Oh my, I don’t know if I could make it through that many days of rain…it’s been a soggy mess here all day but I managed to get out for dinner with friends. Cold, wet, but great folks and a good time. It was worth the slightly soggy jeans. 🙂

I guess we get used to it 🤣🤣🤣

There’s been a few hours respite here and there, between the Bwrw glaw “Boo roo glaw” = Welsh for throwing rain and the mizzle. Clothes have been dried on the line, then got dashed at to bring in to hang up to get rid of sprinkles from a downpour. Hangers on 👕👖in the doorway.

So glad that Spring is on the way. We have had a lot of cloudy days this year, not all with rain, but it is a bit hard to handle. I opt for twinkle lights until Spring finally arrives.

Rainy weather, nonstop, can be a bit depressing. Here in the states we have had a lot of ice and snow this winter. Not fun. But the sun has shone and it is almost gone now.
