Hawklad was watching The Simpsons today in between some seriously heavy summer showers.
It was the episode where Milhouse gets to watch ALL of FINDING NEMO. Hawklad was not impressed….
‘DAD, I need a serious word with you…”
“Say that again….. NEMO had a mum…..”
“I can’t believe you did the same as Milhouse’s parents.”
YEP, Hawklad has only seen that famous fish movie once when he was really young and yes I did that Milhouse Parent thing. I started the DVD at chapter 2. He was blissfully unaware of the tragic parent carnage that happened in the first few minutes. Blissfully unaware until today….
I wonder how many parents did the same thing.
But here’s the thing, who was I really protecting. I suspect it was ME. I would have definitively blubbed….
Aww! You’d do anything for your kids!

I just watched a show last night where the dad asked the girl where she went and she said the airport and he proceeded to tell her that she did not go to the airport that was a dream. Now they were trying to avoid some very bad people knowing they were trying to escape, but I felt that was kinda a bad thing to do. It is such a challenge to know. I kinda feel like there is so much going on in Finding Nemo after that, that most little kids won’t remember. (shrug)

Oh Gary. You’re such a kind parent. I have not heard of this Simpsons episode but can understand why you did what you did. In a way, it’s a blessing Hawklad learned about this as an older teen and I know with some time he’ll appreciate why you did what you did.

I am probably one of the few people on Earth who has never seen any of . . .is it “Finding Nemo?” So what happens in the opening sequence?

You did what you had to do, Gary. He’s older now and likely better able to manage his own grief … and hopefully comfort you when you need it.

We do shield our babies, but then they start to grow up and yet we’ll always think of them as was and want to protect them.

Why do they make films for kids that are going to upset them? I cried forever when I saw Bambi. Love your rainbow…it’s a good sign!

Oooh Gary! Finding Nemo was such a good movie, but yes that part is so sad, and I don’t blame you for skipping it. Your heart is so big for him and its OK to do it for yourself as well! ❤ ((Hugs))

I actually remember tears streaming down my face when we saw Finding Nemo at the cinema. I sat there confused, wondering how on earth there was going to be anything that could possibly be ok after that opening? And I have to admit, since the first time I viewed it at the cinema…I have tended to skip the opening whenever it is on TV. It is too much. You did right G!
