Crazy night. The largest solar storm to hit our region in decades and the fickle Yorkshire weather unbelievably played ball. We found ourselves a quiet, remote part of the moors and for 4 hours we watched the patterns and colours unfold. The whole sky was filled with the ever changing lighting show, even looking south. Absolutely mesmerising and awe inspiring.

And even when we got back home, just before dawn, it was still going strong.
Yes LIFE can be really tough and challenging but it can also be truly breathtaking and spectacularly good.

It was breathtakingly beautiful wasn’t it? Were up in Yorkshire atm too and found a super spot to watch. Though we didn’t stay up as long as you 😂

I was able to see them from my home back yard………and was absolutely thrilled to see them. It was a once in my lifetime event. Glad you were able to experience them too!

Great captures! Who would have thought we can see the Aurora this far south!

It’s strange that it took so long for us to see them then suddenly it’s a few times a year

Even around us, these were visible (I think). I slept, and read about it afterwards. I’m so glad to see that you did not miss out.

Maybe next time, but you need that sleep.

Great images! The effects of the solar storm could be seen from our southern states of Australia, but not as far north as I live – sigh. Apparently, people were awestruck; I know I would have been too. Lucky you… 🙂

I didn’t see them there northern lights last night, and yet other people in Wales did, because they went outside and looked. What was I doing? Well, I was tired and home early I went to my bed.
I’ve only ever seen pink northern lights in Orkney of a morning, but then I didn’t realise what I was seeing. I was ever so slightly freaked out, but not enough to go full on Chicken Licken (as always, I had more important things to do than go talking to royalty).

I remember a few years back and I had never seen them. I went to a night match and on way back stopped to get some petrol. If I had looked up I would have seen one of the best displays ever in the NE, but just never did. Only found out next morning.

We were really lucky as it was forecast to have clouds roll in but they didn’t arrive until dawn

4 hours of it?!! Wow, what a gift. We’re not likely to see any where we are but delighted to know so many were treated to some spectacular sights.

I’m so glad you were able to see the lights. I think they knock the socks off an eclipse. We managed to have heavy overcast two nights in a row so I am enjoying everyone’s photographs. Something to remember!

For years here, we had clouds every time but last year or so, we have had way better luck.

I’m absolutely gutted that I’m unable to drive right now away from the light pollution, up to near my old house, where I understand it was spectacular. We could barely see it from where I live now.

The light pollution makes such a difference. We are really lucky here as all the villages don’t have street lighting. We should get a few more of these storms over the next year, so fingers crossed for you.

We went all the way to Iceland two years ago and didn’t see them. Then, on the weekend when they came here, we went to the south coast, facing the wrong way. 🙄
