Scarborough and unbelievably it’s NOT RAINING.

With one finger briefly dipped into the water I can confirm that the North Sea is absolutely frigid at this time of year….
That was Thursday, Friday was way more misty. Perfect weather to visit the cinema, or as my Mum would have called it, THE PICTURES. Dear Mum, when she was young she loved going to The Pictures but then life happened and she stopped going. For many Decades….
She did go one more time to see The Horse Whisperer. She was rooted to her chair as the credits finished rolling, a little disturbed to discover that the modern Pictures experience doesn’t include a PATHE News bulletin and the singing of the National Anthem. I’m also not sure what Mum would have made of the movie we saw on Friday, the new Bob Dylan biopic. A Fantastic movie but maybe wouldn’t have quite been mum’s musical cup of tea. However we loved it and Hawklad shared a thought while watching Timothee Chalamet hauntingly accurate portrayal of Dylan. Thinking of Dylan performing back in 1961 (even before I was born….) and then realising 63 years later, Hawklad got to see him play live just a few months back. Had to agree with him, that is mind blowing.
He’s still doing live shows? Wow! How awesome is that! Glad you got to go to the movies! I might see about seeing it!

Sounds like the perfect outing for you and Hawklad. I regret not getting to see Dylan perform in person.
Just looking at the sea one can tell how cold it is. Gorgeous pix, Gary.

Loved that film. I saw Dylan and Baez walking along a Newport street in 1963. No fans bothering them.

That sounds a great film. And yes, going to The Pictures – of course!

Those images are amazing! And I’m glad you and Hawklad got out to the movies. I don’t think we’re getting into a theater until spring, when the stop-motion animated film WILDWOOD comes out. Blondie is VERY excited for that one, as am I! xxxxxx

Going to the pictures was an outing. I remember those times with fondness. I heard good things about the Bob Dylan movie. Sounds as if it should do well. I’m glad you both enjoyed it.

The photos are lovely. Its amazing the ways things have changed. My parents don’t understand a lot, especially of the internet, but they tend to accept its reality. For them, it is something that exists for others. I think the last movie my mother saw was a disney movie when we were kids.

Ah, so happy you two went to the Picture show, dear friend. 🙂 Sounds like my cup of tea! It’s on my list of movies to see. And how cool Hawklad saw him sing LIVE! Stunning captures–I can “see” the cold in the beauty! 💙

Wonderful memories of your mum. Yes, as a child that is exactly what we called it – going to the pictures!
I’ll have to check out the movie. I haven’t heard about it as yet, apart from your post.
And Scarborough, beautiful Scarborough. I have great memories of being there on the most wonderful sunny day – sorry ’bout that. But, as a tourist and one who will probably never return – I deserved it… 🙂

Laughed at your mother’s later on cinema experience. Do you remember the little movies they put on before the big picture? I remember the one before Grease came on was some expert skate boarding lads showing off. As for Bob Dylan I was really disappointed some years ago when I saw him in Birmingham after loving his music for an age. He was so rude and off key. People were leaving early in droves, including my small party.
