Castle Bolton in the heart of Yorkshire. Set in Wensleydale, yes the home of Wallace & Gromit’s favourite cheese…… A castle with a stories to tell. Damaged in the civil war, Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned here for 6 months.

The castle really comes alive when you climb towards the top battlements. The views are stunning. Quite unusually you can still get right to the top.

It definitely tests your head first heights, some parts feel a little too precarious.

  1. Oh wow. Those views are stunning. I don’t have a head for heights, so I probably would have struggled with that. But saying that, I have enjoyed the views at Nottingham Castle and it’s got a bit easier to enjoy that. But I still don’t hang around for long.

  2. WOW. Wow. Wow. Wow. Seriously We’ve also been there. We did it one time on the way to stay in Easingwold. I know it is not quite on the way but we’d leave like at 5 am in the morning so as to get down to the area by lunchtime. And this was a pick on a later trip where we’d done so much but hey we’d not done here. And I thought it was great actually. The views were indeed stunning. The history too.

  3. “A real castle as a castle had to be”, Siri and Selma say. Beautifully photographed.
Next time we’re in the area, we’ll surely visit it.
    Wishing you a happy weekend

  4. What an awesome site, Gary, and one that has stood the test of time. The garden and hedge maze are amazing sites. Looks like a beautiful day to be out for a walk too!
