Finally it’s RAINED, ok rained is probably exaggerating a little, we’ve had drizzle. But it’s a start, we will take it after nearly 7 weeks of complete dryness. Dryness is not a word that you normally associate with Yorkshire. A few days back we walked along this path and it was a dust bowl, usually this walk is only passable with wellie boots. So any dampness is much appreciated.

As we got back to the car park it was time to pay the parking fee. My mind went back to the times when you would desperately ferret about in pockets, in the glove compartment, underneath the seats for enough coins to put into the parking machine, usually falling short by just one coin. That’s all gone now, a swipe of a card or mobile phone does the job now.

Time moves on….

How many years is it now….

As I watched the person in front of me effortlessly use his phone to pay I realised that this would all be an alien world to Hawklad’s Mum, she was definitely in the coin generation. A lot has changed since she left us. If anything it’s not the rising year count that marks the passing time, it’s the changes in the world that is the real defining time marker.

  1. Happy it’s raining – drizzling at least. Yes, changes are happening in our world so quickly. As the saying goes – ‘blink and you’ll miss it’, really makes sense… I use my phone for purchases. My daughter uses her watch… Who would have thought this would happen when we were kids?

  5. Speaking of rain. Last summer was a real struggle having seen a drought most of the summer, running the garden hose 24/7 on a struggling 1 acre garden.

    Farmers saw their crops dry up in the field under record high temperatures.

    This spring, June looked like we were headed down the same road. Then we got into a pattern of a heavy rainfall or two to three day of rain every other week. I’m glad I did contour planting with diligence this year. Tomato plant taller than me. Painted Mountain corn six feet tall plus. Hopi Blue Corn 9 to 10 feet tall. Hot weather to boot. The hot peppers in their glory.

    It’s like living in a jungle.

    Hope you get more rain.

  6. My friend Jim is frozen in time, looking the same as he did before he got sick. No updated photos, no gray hair, no changes at all. While I have aged 14 years since he died, and my hair has turned gray and I have tons of wrinkles. He kept 3 small tins in his car–one with nickles, one with dimes and one with quarters–for parking meters. I still have the tins in my car, even though I use parking apps. Among the things that have changed since he died, I think parking apps would have been about his least favorite. Couns worked perfectly well for him.

  10. I wish I could send you some rain from north/central Alberta. They have so much rain they are flooded out.
    But watch what you wish for. The last two years they have been in droughts, so their crops were not healthy. This year they have so much rain the topsoil is running away into creeks and rivers.
    As far as apps go, my partner and I use credit cards only, and make sure we pay them at the end of the month. We are paying about $100 a month for our phones, and we hardly use them at all except for texting. We are not so important that we need or

  15. Even since the turn of the century things have changed drastically. I was saying the same thing myself recently. In some ways it has been progress yet think the old days were not so bad.
