It’s been late this year but finally the trees have truly changed colour.

Change can be such a good thing.

I was talking to a mum who’s daughter goes to the same school as Hawklad went to. Hawklad is a couple of years older. The daughter is dyslexic with some specific educational needs. It’s telling that NOTHING HAS CHANGED. The daughter is going through exactly the same trials and tribulations that Hawklad went through. The School Approach and Attitude is UNCHANGED and as INFLEXIBLE as ever. It might be working for the School and System, but it’s still NOT WORKING for far too many pupils.

Change is needed.

  1. Our trees lost their leaves a month ago. As rough as your climate sounds, at least you have a longer growth season.
Britush schools will never change as long as the Tories and Tory-appointed buresucrats are in charge. Gotta make those brick-headed children become the slaves they were born to be.
I was listening to some old Kinks today, and two songs reminded me of you. The first was about your struggle with the schools, called Brainwashed. The second was about a certain “other” period of your life, called Days. Just thought I would mention them.

  2. Systemic change is very slow and glacial very frustrating. I’m sorry that nothing seems to change and it often feels like lip service by those in charge.

On a positive note, the scenery and change in colours are lovely. Hope you and Hawklad are having a good fall!

  3. It is sad that the need for change is only recognized by our higher power. The four seasons are different for a reason. Why can’t the ones in power on earth see that and conform to the needs of all students.

  4. As someone who suffered dyslexia (still can if I get very tired) I truly appreciate the burden imposed. Back in the 50s and 60s, students like me were considered slow, or even stupid. I would hope this mentality is changing!

  5. Some institutions/people can’t/won’t change. I suppose I’m being negative but we have our education struggles in our town here and things have only gotten worse in the past 15 years. I’m so exhausted from fighting the system and trying to make a way for our kids to have a decent education in school. These days, all I do is ensure they are safe, support them in their efforts to learn on their own and mark time till they can leave and get into good colleges. Hawklad is so blessed to have had you as his teacher. I hope this other girl has a mum who can do the things you did for your son and to keep doing it till they make it. What’s Hawklad’s plans for the future, Gary?
