Our nearest city’s flood defences are being tested this winter.
There is usually a path here…. Initially I thought there was also an alligator waiting for hardy souls still committed to using the path. I didn’t risk it even though my online phone map was trying to send me down it. In this case I definitely ignored the naviGATOR.

Looks like you could use a kayak! Stay away from those gators.

Sorry to hear/see that, Gary. I wish you could send some of that my way. We have had so little snow in Alberta, and with 63 forest fires still burning, we need water. 2033 was the worst year ever for wildfires — 2024 is expected to be worse!!!!!

The fires are still burning?? I had no idea! I’d send rain but we’re still waiting for it too (SoCal).

They are not actively burning, but they have hunkered down into the ground and will flare up as soon as winter leaves our part of the world. Imagine like a lake of burning coals. On the surface you don’t see much, but below the surface you could roast a a cow.

Gads! I hope winter makes a big enough appearance to snuff out the embers!

So far, no. We are still considered to be under drought conditions. And it’s not just the fires thst are affected — the farmers depend on moisture from the melting snow in Spring. As of right now the moisture level is not enough to even germinate seeds.
Last year the now melted too fast, and the water ran off instead of soaking in. We hsd over 1000 wildfires last year. I don’t want to imagine what next year could be like.

It’s the extremes now. We never used to get extremes. Now it’s storm after storm. Really dry then suddenly it’s floods.

Climate change will do that. Too bad most politicians and the wealthy do not believe.

There was a documentary about this. Talked about years of energy to be released.

The documentary I was watching had someone from the Government saying they had in effect stopped trying to put them out, just manage them

It’s cheaper in the short term. Governments hate spending money on useful things.

It’s the same here. Avoid cost, then go cheap then watch issue escalate

Plenty of roads around here unpassable, trains cancelled and fields like lakes. Broadcasts sent to all staff to be aware some road conditions… and also “Mindful” (I do hate that word being used, sometimes it’s a way to project blame towards the person, when actually it’s the guilty trying to cover their butts and …)
Moving swiftly on, to be mindful of travelling, to take alternative routes… to keep in touch with the office and phones charged.

Yikes to the flooding!
Do you really get gators over there or is this Gary humour? I can’t tell with this one. 😆

I think any sane gator would be permanently migrating from here 😂
