Hot Summer lasted 2 days in Yorkshire…..
We headed to the coast on NOT one of those 2 days. Brave Souls still taking on the NOT so tropical North Sea.

Huge queues for the hot drinks, no takers for the ice cream. Perfect day for a stroll along the promenade.

A good place to recharge and forget the torture of A-Level exams, now it’s a waiting game until grades get published in August. The frustration is that two years of study, come down to exams scheduled over a couple of weeks. A couple of weeks that just happened to coincide with Hawklad battling a really heavy cold and rasping chesty cough. Just how many have to sit exams when they are not feeling well. Also not helped by the dreaded exam clash. Two exams scheduled at the same time, so feeling like crap, you sit one exam, then get a few minute break and then you dive straight into a second exam. But exams are the best way to assesses ability, that’s what we are told, so it must be true.
It actually looks amazing! Thanks for sharing!

Looks wonderful, wish I was THERE! It’s 99 degrees in Tucson at the moment… on the 2nd of June. This is not going to end well! LOL!

the other day it was 8C, not quite 99 😂

I hated exams, one was Statistics in here in the full heat of a summers day, before it became a bar.

I hated stats, never could get the right answers.

What’s done is done. We can only do so much within a system and practices that have existed for too long. It’s unfortunate that Hawklad was ill. He might always wonder if things would have been different had he been in good health. But then again, maybe it’s all part of a Greater Plan to get him to where is best for him. We trust in that and forge ahead.

exactly, let’s worry about today first.

The exam results always bring out the worst in me. It may well be the best system for 80% of the population, but like everything else, a society is defined by the way it treats the 20% and those are the ones we are failing. I did badly at school and am not the best man to listen to on this subject. However, this is just another challenge to overcome, like the ones you have already done. It will come right. Sorry if that seems facile, but things do sort themselves out. I have two family members who are very happy people despite early tragedies in their lives. I have several others who turned good early starts into absolute nightmares. You can never tell.

Ugh!! Sorry about the exam stress! Hoping for the best!! 🙏🙏 Most importantly for Hawklad to know is that his test scores don’t define him!

just got to make sure he now forgets about the results until August.

It’s all the stress of studying, anticipating, and worrying about exams that wear down our resistance, make a susceptible to every little germ and bug out there …. and we get sick! Now all that is behind Hawklad; hopefully he can relax and enjoy summer. All the best and good luck, Gary. 💙

one thing I worry about is that they keep adding to the exam syllabus in many subjects. There’s too much to learn, so it starts to become a bit of guess work. Which areas to revise and which you don’t then hope they don’t appear in the exam ❤️

That’s terrible exam scheduling! It brought back memories to me of many decades ago, sitting A levels shortly after the deaths of my school friend and her sister in a car accident. I was naturally devastated, numb and couldn’t even concentrate. Counselling was non-existent back then but in the long run, despite the results, life was kind to me after that. I pray all will go well for Hawklad. Exams are certainly not the best way to assess anyone…

thank you 🙏. Sadly I’m not sure counselling is in place that much now. So wish it was. Hawklad was on the waiting list for bereavement counselling but never got it in the end.

Exams are no doubt the easiest and cheapest way of assessing ability, not the most accurate in my view and having to sit two like that when feeling dire is most unfortunate.

I just wish people had a range of options rather than just exams.

Always hated Exams and tests. They feel…kind of pointless. Unless you want to be like a Scientist or a Doctor or something. I remember when I took my Senior High School Final Exams. I feel asleep for the first time in my life, in the afternoon. In the end, it didn’t even matter. I got all I was going to get from the Lessons.

I use to have a recurring nightmare, where I was back at school and I fell asleep in the exam. Only woke when the teacher said, put your pens down.

It’s nice to hear an update from you and Hawklad, Gary. I’m so he’s been sick and that it coincided with his exams. It’s unfair how things unfolded and especially with no accommodations. I hope you two can enjoy your summer break and put the exams out of your minds until August. Take care,

I hope hawklad does really well in his exams, but if by chance he doesn’t, it isn’t the end of the world, exams are not everything, not the be all and end all!

We’re apparently in the middle of “king tides”, largest of the year, right now but I haven’t seen anything from the city about our ocean-level peninsula flooding. It must be happening… just no notices from the city

it’s been quite a while since we get bad coastal flooding, most towns have large sea walls now. I went back to my home town and couldn’t see over the wall, it was massive.

Re Hawklad: I hope all went well!! After I dropped out of the local university, I realized my 6 bouts of pneumonia had all coincided with midterms and finals.

that doesn’t surprise me. Our bodies don’t cope well with pressure and things like lack of sleep. It’s amazing how many sit exams with bugs.
