Last weekend brought our second trip to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. A wonderful, exciting but crowded day, it was a sell out with 168,000 there on a dry, very warm day…… Last year we had lightning and torrential rain storms……. So walking around in shorts and a T-shirt made a nice change.

Slightly limited photos this year due to my inner Muppet. I did bring my best camera, unfortunately I didn’t bring its battery…. that stayed back in Yorkshire, happily charging in the wall socket. Once again the iPhone came to the rescue.

But I do need to discuss something very weird, very strange, kind of unnerving. The WEATHER. Yorkshire is a wet and windy place. It rains, in winter it really rains, in summer it really rains. We get lots of clouds, clouds permanently live here. But for the last couple of weeks it’s been hot and dry. NO RAIN. And then you get this weather forecast.

Yes it’s getting cooler but where on earth are the clouds. This can’t be, this is Yorkshire. Two days ago I went to buy a watering can. Yes a watering can. My poor plants need water and I have never really needed to water before…. I usually live under clouds in Yorkshire, they do my watering for me. As I walked out with my brand new sparkling green watering can, I bumped into a neighbour, and quoting her exact words….

“… hope you have left me one, I’m off to buy my first ever watering can. This is what it must be like to have proper summers …..”

  2. Looks like a super fun outing, Gary. Probably worked out for the best not having your camera there so you could enjoy the experience.

    The weather has been quite strange this year and off. I hear rumblings of a Super El Niño and you may just be seeing that in Yorkshire too. Enjoy! 🤣

  10. It’s something I always meant to do, but the chaos involved in getting in and out of Silverstone for lesser meetings always put me off. Now it is on the list of things I will never do – my anti-Bucket List. Good to hear your experiences. I have forgotten my batteries or my memory cards several times over the years. 🙂

  12. Sounds like El Niño is making itself felt where you live, Gary. Typically warmer temps, less rainfall. Our weather is definitely warmer here – I hardly think of it as being winter!
    Looks like you had a great outing. Shame about the camera. But, you captured some pretty great images on you phone.

  15. Our climate is definitely changing. Here in Canada, but also with what I see there in the UK as well. As one who enjoys solitude, a crowd of 168,000 people would definitely be overwhelming for me. Before it closed a few years ago. I used to go to the local stock car track. A sell out there was about 2,000 people. ☺️

  16. Here in south India, the Southwest monsoon is supposed to start in early June, this year it did not happen, there was no rain in the first two weeks of July. We had to water our plants. The rains started on July 16th and fortunately it has been raining since then. Changes everywhere.
