Our modest village bungalow….. need to clean the brickwork…..
If only…..

Actually a pleasant walk around Castle Howard.
April 1st….
April Fools Day….
What’s it called when you think you have spotted an April Fools Joke and it turns out to be reality, no joke.
I had been out for a run this morning, which given the tight leggings I was wearing, probably counts as some form of joke….. Running back through the village and the Postman shouted over to me.
“There’s a horse in your garden chomping on your front grass.”
Yeh right…… not falling for that one…..
Two minutes later, I’m stood looking at our front garden and thinking…. Why is there a horse there eating grass.
Thankfully eating grass as just a few inches away was our daffodils and I think I remember that stuff is bad for them. Clearly somehow that horse had escaped from the farmers field behind us. I’m not really a horse person so was a bit unsure on how to encourage it back to where it should be. The kneeling down in front of it and shouting ‘here boy’ might work with dogs but not with this horse. Gently trying to push it in the general direction of the field gate (like I do with our pudding of a boy cat), was a tad unsuccessful. Ok back to dog tactics, wave a treat in front of it. A clump of grass didn’t work, a carrot didn’t work…. But unbelievably a Rich T biscuit caught its attention. Before one biscuit was consumed, the beast had shifted about 2 yards. Sadly about another 60 to go. I only have 2 biscuits left….
Thankfully the farmer then arrived having been alerted by the Postman. A few seconds later the horse was back home in his field. All it took was a few quiet words, a handful of seed and the horse followed the farmer.

Clearly I’m no horse whisperer and now I’m double checking some of the news items that I assumed were practical jokes. Trump as President and the Golf of America apparently aren’t practical jokes…..
Maya hasn’t been introduced to a horse yet…………….

that will be fun. Captain chaos loves horses.

I remember introducing Maggie to one on Weston Super Mare beach. She was smaller than its head, but she was fine………… until it whinnied at her!

I just thought this morning that we hadn’t April Fooled anybody this year. It’s standard when you have youngsters, isn’t it, but I guess we’ve grown out of it. Boring, huh? Your son might have appreciated a horse? Don’t think they’re cheap to keep though xx

maybe it’s what’s going on with the world, but not many people seemed to bother this year.

Oh don’t I wish! (That T was not) I would be thrilled to find a horse in my garden, not that I would know what to do either except I could offer it one of the groundhog’s carrots. The only visitors I get are escaped chickens, barking dogs and stray cats looking for food – or a home.

One day this American nightmare will be over and we can get back to being sensible and caring for our fellow human beings no matter where they reside…until then we are being governed by some real horse’s asses.

Castle Howard looks beautiful! I googled it and would love to visit it. Nobody tried to be funny with me today. Maybe just as well…I have to agree though, this year has seemed like one long practical joke already. Except it’s not funny…

Oh, yes, what a surprise indeed 😄But that way the horse even got an extra treat!
On Sunday I was driving back home by train, when my neighbour called me and told me there were three baby sheep in my garden. Hmm, I texted the information to my son and husband who were at home. Too funny, I had to tell them from afar what was going on 😅

There you go naming names and memories. I loved Castle Howard. But, no practical jokes to speak of. In fact it was a brilliant day meeting a new doctor. I had to get a ‘fit to drive’ letter from my GP else my driving licence would need to be surrendered. Having turned seventy five, this was a necessity). Now, you could say this was an April fool’s joke! Anyone for a biscuit? 😉 😉

Like more than half of the U.S. population I keep hoping to wake up one day and find the whole Trump administration was just a huge April Fool’s joke. But I’m glad, at least, that the horse didn’t eat the daffodils.
