It doesn’t look the most impressive plant but it certainly has meaning.
Something like 18 years ago we had just moved into the house. The garden was so badly overgrown. The lawn was more like a corn field. Took us three days to cut it. Having revealed the garden we found it appeared to have no flowering plants. Many weeds and one Apple tree. I guess that’s called a blank canvass.
A week or so later the village had a plant fare and we nervously ventured down to it. We knew hardly anyone there. We did meet some lovely people. Unfortunately over time those we get to know have either left or sadly passed away. Can’t remember much about the actual fare apart from my partner telling me that we needed to buy something. I randomly picked a hand full of plants. As we were late the selection of healthy plants was completely exhausted. Our new plants looked somewhere between decidedly unhealthy and dead. They didn’t survive long. All except one and here it still is. Who would of thought that the most sickly looking plant would end up outliving my partner and a number of the residents at the fare. Life is definitely bizarre and it is often so unfair. But that is life. We need to treasure it, treasure all life.
Lovely post. Plants do indeed have such meaning in life.

Plants, like so many things, bring us memories. I, too, have plants in my yard that remind me of people,

What a great reminder that plant is. I have a lot of plants that tell a story. Even some that I have had longer than I have known Bob. I remind him of that every time he complains about my plants. Another good reminder 🙂

Yes tell Bob that. Keep him in his place. Have a great weekend.

Indeed. I had the sickliest little rose back in Washington, but against the odds it survived and then a tree fell on it and it got brutalized in the clean up efforts. When I left Washington I paid a very sad farewell to that rose that was thriving, having been transplanted once again. I do hope the new people care for it.

Life, ALL life is important and interdependent. Maybe the actual Sun doesn’t shine much, but you’ve got a bunch of little yellow suns growing strong on the love in your house… watered by the tears and nourished with the laughter. It’s not showy, but sturdy and hearty! Perfect!
You’re awesome, recognizing and sharing this brilliant marigold with us! Thank you!🌼🌻💌💌

Ben has been sleeping all day… which is nice, but it’s because he has a fever, which isn’t nice. 🤦♀️ It’s come down so we’re just watching and waiting🤷🏼♀️
It’s probably his ears. It’s always his ears🙄
always something, right?!🤷🏼♀️💌

There used to be an annual plant fair at the local 2yr college. I tended to kill everything I bought (mostly veggies, the flower plants were overpriced) but I still loooved shopping there and greatly miss it.

I like looking but tend not to buy as I am a bit of a plant killer.

I used to be that way but now have a lush back yard, full of plants which don’t mind neglect! But fang those annual veggies that refuse to grow for me… esp after the student selling them showed me picks of his 15′ tall plant (literally growing onto the house roof… tomatoes)!!

The plants that accompany us through life become like family. I have a pot plant that I have had since before we were married – over 25 years now

I love it, but I love the story even more. Yes, life is hard to figure out and it can certainly feel so unfair. Life should be cherished indeed. So hold on to the memories and keep making fabulous new ones.
