July will see the second Great Bloggers Bake-off (18/19th). This year it’s a massive picnic. So in the spirit of things here is this weeks baking submission from Yorkshire. Oh it’s a doozie….
These are supposed to be donuts.
As son rather harshly pointed out.
“Looks nothing like any donut I’ve ever seen…”
“More life a UFO”
“Your not going to get much Jam in that one…”
Well I think I’ve set the bar very high on the donut front.
Remember the Bake-off is for everyone, including those like me who can’t bake. It’s not often we get a chance to show off our complete incompetence in the kitchen. Lets embrace our inner baking muppet. Let’s have a laugh and give everyone a giggle as well. You know it makes sense.
So from now until the big weekend I am going to do at least one bit of baking each week. No practice runs. Photograph the disaster.
Remember to send in your baking creations (you can start early) to Mel so that they can be featured in the Great Bake-off.

Just own it and name them UFOs. 😀 😀
I actually am quite good at baking, but: a few years after moving to my Stepford Wives neighborhood, I attended what was advertised as a Cookie Exchange. Everyone brought a few dozen cookies and would then go back home with a variety from exchanging.
I showed up with a cookie sheet of my offering; they were the most palatable dozen or two after the rest broke or burned or whatnot. The others’ cookies looked like a magazine photo; plus, the ladies all produced plates and tiers and lace doilies and china teacups to display theirs on.
At the time, I felt out of place and resolved to make something fancier next time. If I were to attend today, however, I think I’d show up with a store-bought package and dump it in a styrofoam bowl. 😀

That’s what I would do. Your neighbourhood sounds so much fun. Is it just me but a Cookie Exchange sounds so cool. x

Social anxiety aside, it was cool. 🙂

Wait, there’s a bloggers bake-off? Color me intrigued. 🙂 They don’t look bad unless you KNOW they’re supposed to be donuts. Rebrand to Saucer Cakes as Pensitivity101 suggested and you’re good to go 🙂

There is July 18/19. Basically do some baking and then photograph it. Last year was great fun.

Who has defined that doughnuts are having a whole in the middle? Perhaps that was the actual accident and yours is the original version!

I like the fact that where the hole should be is the thickest part of my donut.

Yum! What a shame to lose the best part … lol

I think you’re on to something with those. I bet you’ll never get them to turn out like that again in 100 years though.

Some of the best tasting things I’ve made looked like something the cat coughed up🙀
Besides, shaped that way, you could fill the center with LOTS of jam, custard or chocolate cream. YUM!

The taste wasn’t great sadly…

Does matter how it looks all that matters is how it taste, but to be honest I’m digging the UFO donuts! And did someone say jam!?

Jam going in soon.

As someone much wiser than me pointed out – I missed out the hole in the middle which would have been the best part of the donut. xx

Well, it could be a donut I suppose….

That didn’t sound entirely convincing……

I thought they looked really good actually. Look donuts are tricky. I mind the day I bought this bake your own in the chip pan pack. Yeah. And I thought ‘ What a great idea. I will surprise my mum for when she comes in from her work.’ And let me tell you when she came home to find her chip pan on fire in the middle of the side lawn she was surprised. She was also incandescent. Je rests mah valise on the subject of donuts. Indeed Je need no parlez on the subject of donuts.

I like the UFO suggestion! LOL! Hey they may not look like doughnuts, but I admire your effort, I been afraid to try! And just you mentioning doughnuts makes me hungry for a really good cream filled one!

Yes a good cream one would be lovely right now.

They are very special UFO donuts – I think you should actually start your own cookbook! 😀

My first thought was UFO as well. 😂 I think they’d sell like hot cakes. They serve up easy as well. Just a toss through the air to the saucer. Hey, forget the saucer. They are the sacuer. 😄

Perfect for social distancing. People don’t need to take the cakes to the tables. They can just throw them at the customers. Safe and cuts down on washing up. You are a genius.😀

Haha. Yes, social distancing doughnuts for everyone! Hovering soon to a home near you.😀

It’s a winner. Next step how do we do that with ice cream. 😀

Ice cream is definitely a tricky one. 😕 I’m imagining frosty ice cream balls flying through the air and a food fight breaking loose. 😄

As long as we get out ice cream then that works. I have a habit of dropping my ice cream on the floor, so probably would be at home with ice cream flying towards me. 😀

I ordered a nee toaster oven last night (paid waaay too much extra to get the pretty red one!), so I’m putting it in my calendar and will make something (cheesecake or quiche) on the 18th!!

How did it taste? Cause you can’t always judge by looks lol ✌️
I think if you dropped those in vat of chocolate – that could be a possibility lol

They are special Covid 2020 donuts, obviously. To get jam in, just scoop out the top, but they look good enough as they are.

Um … don’t donuts usually have a hole in the middle? 🍩 Just askin’ … That said, they actually look quite delicious and I’m thinking that served with a small ramekin of warm maple syrup in which to dip them, they might yet become a new ‘to die for’ treat! 😋

I’m a big fan of giving mistakes a name and then taking refuge in audacity. For example, I am the proud creator of “cake salad”. UFO donuts are a fantastic idea. 🙂
