An apple crumble. One of my apple crumbles. Actually not a bad one at all. Very tasty.
Unfortunately not all crumbles are the same. Certainly not mine. Like the one I made a couple of nights back. All seemed on track. Apples picked from the tree. Apples cored, peeled and cut into pieces. Placed in a bowl and seasoned – generous helpings of sugar added – these are sour apples. Then a fine gluten free crumble was made and applied lovingly to the pie dish. The crumble was cooked at the right temperature and for the right time. A beautiful custard was prepared. Just perfect. What could possibly go wrong.
“Dad I can’t taste any apples. In fact I can’t find any apples in my portion!”
Nonsense must be there Hawklad. Your just imagining that……
Oh hang on I can’t find any apples in my portion as well, just crumble and custard….
**** So I went into the kitchen and there on the table was the unused bowl of apples. I had made Apple Crumble Surprise. The surprise being that it contained no apples. ****
Funny, I did that and found my apples in the microwave!! This was before my oats and granola topping.

Lol! I have never had apple crumble (crisp here in Canada) with custard. Sounds amazing. I would be including lots of gluten though. I donβt want to end up with a gluten deficiency. π

Oh that be a new one for me, if I did that.
I was thinking today, should I make a small apple crumble, with my eating apples. But I gave it a miss.

Not as much as I would like, or as long – but I am able to get some (slow) miles in here and there. I run for you. I am able to get out, here and there, and so I keep you in mind knowing your legs want to feel the same burn. I am thinking of you and hoping for some positive change for you and son in the next year ahead.

I am going to admit, just crumble and custard without the fruit would be the perfect kind of crumble for me. I love fruit, I love all fruit….but I prefer it fresh rather that stewed. I normally make the exception for an apple crumble because I love the crumble and the custard.

My kids call that Crumble Crumble. They prefer it to fruit crumble so I have to make a separate dish for them and save the apple version for us adults.

That is hilarious! I once made tea biscuits and forgot the baking powder. But crumble and custard sounds like a great dessert. Maybe you have created something that could become a trend? Now I’m hungry for apple crumble, but it almost midnight and no time to make anything. At least your apples were ready for the next batch of apple crumble so you could make it much more quickly. π
