Last nights fireworks. That’s as pyrotechnically awesome as the display got. But that’s the point. Some others in the village will spend huge amounts on expensive fireworks. Not here. The tradition is get the cheapest box set available and then laugh at the results. That makes for such a fun night. That’s basically the point of fireworks.

Then it was time for another crack at toffee apples. It went as badly as the previous night. Finally with the last drops of syrup (out of date maple left over from pancake day) we managed to kind of coat some apples. Kind of. Not enough to cover a full apple. We had to cut the apples up into pieces and hope for the best. I might have forgotten to boil the apples first so they didn’t like keeping the toffee coat on.

The end results can be best described in one word.

  1. So… no bonfire on Bonfire Night?? πŸ€”πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ I love a good fire!!

It is so bizarre to me to read that you just buy fireworks. They are illegal in California because fire and people are stoopid! (The “Gender Reveal” disaster…) We can even get sparklers. It must be fun to do your own fireworks.πŸ’ƒπŸΌβœ¨πŸŽ†πŸŽ‡

      1. I saw a “hack” to lightly sand the apples, with sandpaper. Uhhh… no! I’m sure there’s some easy trick to it but don’t know what it is.

      2. Sandpaper is starting to sound practical! Except I saw the results on “People vs Food” and it didn’t really help either.

We need to interview someone who has success!

      1. LOL.

Did you ever have caramel “sheets” for apples? Those were GREAT! You literally just folded them around an apple. I used to put one in the middle of my apple pies. But I haven’t seen them in years.

  2. Still trying to catch up with my e-mail after several days off the computer over the past couple of weeks. I remember one fireworks display when I was a kid. (Not that’s about a century ago.) πŸ™‚ We drove to the park where the display was set up, but just as we were arriving, the whole blooming lot of fireworks went up at once when a spark landed in the box. Now that was some display. I like yours better.
