This is at the maximum zoom on my old digital camera. Probably takes about 30 minutes to drive here. It’s called Garrowby Hill. It is the highest point of the Yorkshire Wolds and is just over 800ft above sea level. It’s supposed to be a lovely view from the top but in all the years we have never stopped here. Surprising given the number of times we have driven past it.

We are now moving close to THOSE six weeks. Starts on my birthday, the day my mum left us and then 6 weeks later ends when my partner left this world. That was some 6 weeks in 2016. But it’s a bittersweet time as those 6 weeks usually make the start and end of the school summer holidays as well. A time when son is free of the trials of education. A chance to be free and a kid again.

Well let’s concentrate on the free and kid bit. That’s this years plan anyway. Yes recall good memories but try to remember it’s 2020. Not 2016. I guess a bit like Garrowby Hill. We can see it but it doesn’t mean we have to go and stop there. So yes 2016 will always be there but we don’t have to stop there.

  1. Excellent way to look at it. 💌

800ft huh? Careful you don’t get a nosebleed waaaaay up there😂😂 that’s a little shorter than the hills to the west where the sun sets in my pictures. Our valley is 433ft. The richy rich neighborhood on the hill to the south is 1300 some odd feet.

I cant imagine somewhere so flat. Well, yes, I can… I’ve been through some of our middle states, Kansas comes to mind. Flat, flat, flat…

    1. According to a song by FREE HOT LUNCH, Kansas has nothing on Nebraska. My tablet doesn’t allow me to copy and paste, so Google I Hate To Wake Up Sober In Nebraska. There are a few quality tracks on YouTube, but I couldn’t find one by going straight there. Going through Google I found one.

  2. You should always move on in life! Moving in itself holds no danger. The directions, however, may change your life entirely.
Like the saying: The man that don’t dare lift his foot in a fist step will get nowhere!
Or: – will never find the opportunities waiting around the first corner! 🙂

  3. Isn’t it interesting that those places we are so close to are those we barely really visit?
It is understandable that those 6 weeks are engraved in your heart. And they can’t and don’t need to be forgotten. It is only important what you are doing anyway: remembering to move on too and not getting stuck in the past.

      1. No, he is smaller and enjoys his trampoline 🙂 My birthday is always on or right around Mother’s Day. I get jipped as the celebrations get combined every year 😉

  5. My year of death was 2017 – ugh … you got punched like I did

Do you know the same Christmas specials I do? Do you know “Rudolph’s Shiny New Year”?

If you do… baby new year gets lost and they have to find which island of yesteryear he might be on…

Every year had an island… or a memory… every island was different

    Anyway reminds me of that

Tucked away on an island – until I distantly visit … is painful.
